Best sleepers for chunky babies

DS is a chunker and has huge thunder thighs. My go to for sleepers (and most baby/toddler clothes) has always been Carters, but they are getting really tight in the thighs. It was just the button ones that were hard to button in the crotch area. The last couple weeks even the zippered ones have been really tight in one leg. He's fitting into 9 mo clothes really well now, so I went ahead and tried a 12 mo Carters pajama on him tonight. It's still too tight in the legs and about 2 inches too long. Does anyone know a brand that may work better? Are there brands that work better for a chubby baby? My DD has always been long and lean, so trying to dress a chubby baby is sort of a new problem for me. Thanks!

  • Sleep sack at night. Onesies with pants during the day.

  • I am so following this. I have a chubster as well.

I do like the Circo brand sleepers better than Carter's, but they are still kind of an awkward fit. Curse those cute little thighs.

That's what he's in tonight. The only sleep sacks we have though are Carters, which are 0-9 mo. He's long too, so that isn't giving him much room to grow. Maybe I just need to buy some bigger sleep sacks, at least until he gets a little older and I can put him in 2-piece pajamas.

  • Try children's place! They have two piece pjs for younger babies (most 2pc pjs start at 12 months) and also great sleepers we love them!! They usually have a good deal on them too. Also oldnavy has great pjs but they start at 12 months I think ?
  • Someone bought dd a couple of onesies from Walmart I guess. They're the faded glory brand. They seem to run big and have a lot of stretch to them.

  • OshKosh sleepers are very wide. Definitely something to look into.

  • We were given some sleepers from Walmart the George Brand it seems to fit a medium husky baby. Also Joe Fresh works good on our chunkster.
  • Check out Zutano footed sleepers. DS is pretty chunky and the legs are very wide. I found a lot on Amazon and I love them.

  • I second the Carters for Target. We also got a couple that are Absorba brand that seemed wider. LO is also in 9 mo. sleepers but fits in a 12 mo. 2 piece carters pajama set if you want to go that route.

Awesome guys! Thanks! I'm mobile right now, but this gives me a lot of places to check when I'm on the computer later. It looks like this a common problem. We have in the past had some of the Target Carters brand sleepers as hand me downs and I had forgotten, but those did seem to fit longer.

  • I wish they had baby dressing rooms. I'd like to try a couple of the ideas you guys gave. Think anyone would care if I tried it on him first? Will I look like a crazy lady if I'm shoving a fat baby into pajamas in the aisle at target? Or I could just buy and return, if needed, I guess.

Oh come on!  How can anyone resist that face?  I'm sure it would be fine to try them on him.

He is not only the most chubby, but also the happiest baby I've ever meet. He would be pretty hard to resist.

  • Ha, I have been dressing LO in 6-9 mo tops and 12 month leggings for a while now, but that is also to accommodate a bulkier cloth diaper....  her thighs are on the chunkier side though too.  So darn cute with all their rolls!  :P
