Comfort during work travel?

Hey Ladies,

Looking for some advice from those of you that had business travel when pregnant.  I will be traveling both next week and the following week for work, dreading it because I'm already pretty uncomfortable and enjoy just being at home lately.  Any tips for making the plane ride and hotel stays easier? Tips for when I'm in meetings all day with customers? Any advice would be really helpful. I never had to travel in my first pregnancy so am having a hard time thinking about doing it with the twins.

Re: Comfort during work travel?

  • I am 37 weeks and air traveled all throughout my pregnancy, just stopped last week. My suggestions are wear flats, compression socks for flights. I just wore really tight knee socks. No extra sodium, eat out as little as possible, which I know is hard. Bring lots of protein rich, high fiber snacks from home and drink as much water as humanly possible. Walk outside if you can and take advantage of any hotel pool. At meetings, I did my best to select my chair first and tried to adjust my posture in each chair to where I was most comfortable, which for me was as erect as possible. I did take tylenol quite a bit.

    Good luck!

  • I traveled when I was pregnant and it was okay. Having a reusable water bottle and snacks is key. Stop frequently for bathroom and snack breaks and make sure you stretch before getting on the plane or in the car. I brought flats to change into when I was going straight from a meeting to the airport. Try to pack light since hauling luggage around sucks when you are pregnant. I used a large purse and a backpack which carried my clothes and my lap top. And if you go out to dinner and everyone is drinking and billing the company, order dessert. :)

  • If your back hurts, take a small pillow for lumbar support on the plane. And ask for the aisle bulkhead if you're in coach. Allows you to stretch your legs, and some airlines hold those seats for people who need them. My OB almost stroked out when he found out how much I was flying my last pregnancy, and I flew into my 8th month. This time he's cutting me off around 32 weeks.
