Rant... N really BR

My classroom has felt like a sauna all year long. I have complained and complained about it. Numerous work orders have been put in. Maintenance guys have come in and said "yeah, it's hot" but have done NOTHING about it. Fast forward to today.....

I go to work and it is unbearably hot again. I email and complain but the person who calls central office was out today. Make it to lunch and get some ice water. Probably drank the water a little too fast and then had lunch on top of that. 5 minutes later... Threw up everything! (Sorry....tmi). I was then told to split my class and go home.

So, because of our maintenance departments carelessness, I was forced to take a half sick day. In reality I couldn't have kept working today anyway cause now I feel like crap.

It's absolutely rediculous and I am pissed!!!

Re: Rant... N really BR

  • That really sucks. I'm in the opposite boat - my classroom is FREEZING. However, we have a great maintenance staff who really works and tries to do what they can to make things better. My heater completely stopped on Friday last week and was fixed by midday. It's toasty warm now compared to how it was.

Have you said anything to your admin? I know that if our maintenance staff was slacking like that our superintendent wouldn't stand for it, especially if teachers were complaining.

  • My AP called today AND our nurse wrote up a report.
  • I can empathize!  I have been in the same classroom for 10 years and just last week FINALLY the heat was (almost) fixed.  It took a new maintenence supervisor to get mine fixed, the last one told me my heater was supposed to blow out cold air and it was working fine.  I hope they do something about this soon for your sake and your students.  Kids can't learn when the temperature is extreme.

  • My co-worker texted and said there was a maintenance guy in my room this afternoon. I hope they did something. Even if they would just close the dang vents.
