Re: CP: Margaret Nicknames

  • I voted Maggie, because I've always loved that nn, but I also like Greta.

I know it's not on your list, but I'm also a fan of Meg.

  • I voted Maggie, as that is what my Margaret has been since before she was born.  So I am probably a tad biased.
  • I love Margot, Maggie, and Greta.

  • Thanks everyone! I actually don't like the name Meg at all, which is why I didn't include it. I do enjoy Molly though :)
  • I voted Maggie, but wanted to also note that a very dear friend of mine goes by Margs. Yes, like a pitcher of margs at the Mexican restaurant. But it fits her spunky personality and I love it on her.

I like Maggie and that's my first instinct and what I voted for, but Greta is starting to grow on me.

Edit:  Looking at other posts, I kinda don't hate Molly, either.

  • I had a dog named Maggie that my brother named because when he found her (stray) she had maggots in her butt. Ruined the name forever!

    +1 Greta

  • I like Daisy, Margot, [kind of like] Greta.

I also really just like Margaret on it's own.

  • How does one get Daisy from Margaret? That makes zero sense.

LOL thanks for the assessment. I'm going to assume you didn't vote for that one then ;)

For your reference, Daisy has been used as a nickname for Margaret dating back to the Middle Ages. Marguerite means Daisy in French.
  • I chose Greta though I prefer it on its own.

Hmm...I've always known Margaret/Marguerite to mean "pearl"

  • @futuremrsw9 - The one thing that makes me nervous about that nickname (as ridiculous as this sounds) is that because DH and I are so tall, likely any daughter we have would be around 6' tall. I knew someone who was called Marge the Barge, and I'd like to avoid that if at all possible ;)
