Re: Weekly Exercise Thread

  • Week: 25 Weeks
    Weekly Log:
    Tuesday: 2 mile walk w/dog
    Wednesday: 1 hour prenatal yoga
Sunday: 1 hour body pump; 4 mile walk with dog
    Rants/Raves:
Rant: Holy heartburn! I can't believe that this is a symptom of pregnancy. It blows. Pepcid and Tums have become my BFFs. Another rant - sleeping, or lack thereof - I'm sure I'm not alone on this one, but why is it so hard to get comfortable, and when you do, you realize you have to pee. So irritating. Rave: My mom and sister bought the glider/ottoman for our nursery - it should arrive in 4-6 weeks!
Goals for next week: Hit the gym 4-5x; no bagels for breakfast.
GTYK: Just curious, did any of you consider walking to be a form of exercise before you were pregnant? Personally, I never did. I didn't think I was getting a work out unless I was sweating. Now that I'm limited on the kinds of cardio I can do (thanks, placenta previa), I'm finding walking is actually a really good work out. I feel a bit tired after walking 4 miles and DH and I have had really good conversations while walking the dog on those long walks.

  • Week: 24 weeks
Weekly Log: All I've really gotten in would be some walking around our neighborhood - very hilly, pushing my toddler in the stroller (he weighs about 40 lbs). I think I managed to get in 3 days last week, about 2.5 miles each time.
Rants/Raves: Gained 11 lbs between my OB appts - they were 4 weeks apart, but I was a little shocked it was that much. Also, I'm having tons of pubic bone pain so sometimes walking is not bad at all but other times it really, really hurts.
Goals for next week: Well, I would love to get out and walk more but we are under another winter storm watch for tonight through Thursday. I would like to get in my exercise DVD's at least 3 times this week.
GTYK: Just curious, did any of you consider walking to be a form of exercise before you were pregnant? I did, actually. That was my "cardio" and then I did strength training outside of that. When I was trying to lose weight after having DS, all I could really do for a while was walk and I lost a bunch of weight incorporating that with eating right. I try to walk at least 2 miles, try more for 3, so I think it's a good workout, especially when we have lots of hills and I do break a sweat.

  • Week: 28/Eggplant
Weekly Log: Mon - Ran 3.5 miles, 10 min elliptical
Wed - Ran 3.5 miles, 10 min elliptical
Fri - Ran 3.5 miles, 10 min bike
Sun - Ran 3.5 miles, 10 min elliptical
Rants/Raves: Running is definitely getting a little harder especially now that I feel more winded than before.
Goals for next week: We are going to Hawaii next week so hopefully try and get some hiking and exercising in while on vacation.
GTYK: Just curious, did any of you consider walking to be a form of exercise before you were pregnant? Yes, I definitely considered walking as a form of exercise, but took so long to get to that 300 calorie burn.

  • 25 weeks (mo/di twin boys)

    Tues: 30 min strength
    Thurs: 40 min prenatal video
Sat: 35 min walk on treadmill

Rants/raves: I have been better about eating well (until yesterday when DH brought home a box of donut holes and 4 boxes of Girl Scout cookies!!!) and more consistent about exercising. My new rule is I have to do something every other day. I think this week that rule allowed me to be lazy and not work out if I had the day before, but I will at least get 3-4 days a week in if I stick to it.

Goals this week: 5 days! It's supposed to be nice later in the week and I have three new prenatal DVDs from the library so no excuses! Try not to eat ALL the Girl Scout cookies and donut holes!!!

Yeah, I walked a lot for exercise before. Usually at a 3.7mph, pushing a double stroller. I'm down to a 3.3mph now but that's ok. I don't consider a leasuirely stroll exercise. I have to get my HR up for it to count.

@Jcrewgirl85, no it absolutely didn't! I understand exactly what you meant.

Totally, some people only are able to walk;however, I don't think walking a mile justifies that(if that makes sense?)

Absolutely! Speed walking is awesome and preferred over running bc it's much less stress on joints. Add some weights and you are working hard.

  • If I can do nothing else I make myself walk....I was a gym rat before pregnancy...but I am getting more and more uncomfortable in there which is really frustrating. Mainly because I hate how I look in sports bras and tshirts...not a cute look...and the fact that my body pump instructor said "when are you due? I said May...she says "wow that that is going to be a big baby"...kinda pissed me off...like I don't feel awkward enough at the gym right now. Still aiming for 3-4 times a week of doing at least something...usually 35 mins on elliptical
