Nanny or In-home Day Care?

I just realized I only have two weeks left of mat leave to figure out child care. I work from home & my mom can help in the meantime, but I either need to find a nanny or a very close in-home daycare.

Any advice regarding what might be a better option? I'm sure it would be a bit distracting to have nanny/baby at home, but then I could nurse and not deal with pumping and getting baby out the door every morning. Thoughts?

Also, if you have any referrals for a nanny/in-home daycare near Parmer/McNeil/183, please let me know! (-:

Re: Nanny or In-home Day Care?

  • Hi AustinLover, I am debating this very issue myself! I'd love to have an in-home nanny but from the costs I've calculated, having one would cost even more than a typical private daycare.

I live in the same area as you, and off of Garfield Street (Riata Vista from Parmer, R on Garfield) there is a lady who has a sign in her yard for daycare in her home. I haven't checked into it, and it may not be exactly what you want, but maybe it will help!

I look forward to seeing what responses this thread gets, I'm curious myself! :)
  • Thanks Lucky! I'll definitely check that out!

I would say nanny. Just make sure she is ok with you working at home. Not all nannies are.

  • Try care.com for a nanny

Care.com is great. I was a nanny for years(2004-2013). I found all my jobs on care.com.

  • I'll be looking at this option myself, as I work 100% from home and will need someone in probably a year or so to monitor the baby while I'm in meetings and working. Also, I'm in the same area as you, so let us know if you found someone or have any recommendations.
