Mommy fail

I put Maggie in the nursery chair and Harriet (2 yr old) climbed up next to her. They were sweet and snuggling.

I left them for 3 minutes to strip Harriet's dirty sheets and drop them off in the laundry room.

In that time Harriet picked up the baby and carried her into her room, only 10 ft. Harriet couldnt lift her up onto her bed so she left her on the floor. Maggie is fine but did not like being on the floor. That will never happen again but this was my initial reaction.

Any other mommy fails you'd like to share?

Re: Mommy fail

  • We had a similar incident with DS1 when DS2 was 2 weeks old. DS2 was in the bouncy seat in the living room with DS2 (2 yrs). I was in the kitchen mopping the floor which was like 5 feet away from them. I had JUST checked on them and ds2 was happily reading a book on the couch. Then I heard him say "baby" and I popped my head into the living room to see DS2 bouncing on his knees in the bouncy chair ON TOP OF DS2!!! (He wasn't trying to hurt him, he just likes playing in the bouncy unfortunately)
I damn near had a heart attack!!! I took him off ds2 and he was spitting up and breathing really shallow and sputtering. I ran over to my neighbors house with the boys freaking out and we called 911 because she agreed he wasn't really breathing normal and wouldn't stay awake or really respond to us.
After an ambulance ride to the hospital and being checked out by the doctors he THANKFULLY, was completely fine!! I, on the other hand, wanted to crawl under a rock and die! I felt like the worst mom in the world, even after they repeatedly told me it happens frequently. I did however learn the hard way how quickly things can happen and to try and keep a closer eye on them together.

  • Yesterday I dropped my iPad mini on LO's head while he was watching baby Einstein. He thought it was funny. My initial reaction was brain damage. We both had a good laugh about it.

  • I was never told you need to keep putting Vaseline on a circumsized penis until they were potty trained. We learned at 7 weeks his circumsicion had fused and we had to pull back the skin everyday. It was like re-circumsizing him all the time. I now slather him in Vaseline at every diaper change.

I'm so sorry that happened, but you don't have to keep Vaseline on until they're potty trained! We were told to only put it on as long as it was still red. Once it looked pink and healed we could stop...which only took about a week. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably keep it up for a bit though.

  • @scamberlous3000 thanks! I originally stopped after it looked healed a week or so after we got home. When we went for his 2 month the dr was superpissed because "everyone knows to keep doing it until potty training" He made me feel horrible so I switched doctors and kept going with the Vaseline hahaha.

I was never told to do it until potty training.  We did it for like 10 days after birth and he's all good.

It is normally until it heals. I don't know why the hole sometimes fuses shut but that happened to DH when he was a toddler. He had to have surgery to open it back up. I'm glad you changed doctors though, you didn't do anything wrong and shouldn't be made to feel that way.

I had LO buckled into his changing pad and went to go heat up another bottle. Came back and he was on the floor. It was the worst moment of my life. We had him checked out and he was fine but it scared the S&@!T out of me. Biggest mommy fail. I still have no idea how it happened. Pad had not moved and buckle was still latched :(

    Edited for spelling.
  • I forgot to tighten her car seat straps back up after being in the mall... Lucky it was a 2min drive to the grocery store. I felt like the worst mommy ever.

  • I forgot today was the 10th, therefore, Brayden's 5 month birthday. The babysitter reminded me... :(
  • I spilled formula all over LOs head the other day.  I was trying to make the bottle while bouncing him to soothe him.  He looked like he had dandruff all day long!

  • We had a mommy&daddy fail. We went out to eat with some friends and LO fell asleep on the drive there and continued to sleep all through dinner. Well we got to the restaurant and they flip one of those wooden highchairs over so we can set his car seat in it. Perfect!! Well when we went to leave, DH went to grab the car seat...well somehow he lost his grip and the upside down high chair tipped and the car seat fell to the ground...luckily because he was sleeping we never unbuckled him! It makes me sick to think what would have happened if he wasn't buckled in still! We both felt so terrible! It didn't help that EVERYBODY in the restaurant got extremely quiet and were staring at us. Parents of the year right here! We won't ever put his seat on one of those high chairs again!!

  • I was putting LO into his carseat and buckling all the straps..... and then he decided to have ninja arms flailing all over the place, and I started to do the last buckle and his finger got caught... he cried, I cried.... I felt awful :( His finger looked fine and he settled down after a minute or so. I felt horrible.

I've been so worried about this happening with my LOs!! Also I have to point out that it made me chuckle that you basically called both kids 'ds2' throughout that entire story ;)

Damn it stupid phone, I didn't even notice! Lol!
  • DD was hospitalized with a UTI on her 2 month bday. I cried like crazy. They said it could happen to anyone but that didn't help. My only saving grace is that I took her temp immediately when she felt warm. I called the doc bc it was over 99. They laughed at me. We went to the ER when it hit 101 and they also kind of laughed. So at least we caught it quick due to my paranoia.

  • The other night I was clipping my sons nails and one flew in his eye! He immediately started squinting and rubbing it and his eye watered. Fortunately it came out quickly. I couldn't believe it - I always cut his nails and have never hurt him and it flew in his eye! I felt terrible.

Been there, done that. Didn't help that DH kept telling me that I maimed DS and he'd be scarred for life (there wasn't a scratch on him). Thanks dude.
