Hells to the no. But I am biased. I know some really .. um... dramatic kids named Dexter. Plus I feel like it is way over used.

I really like it, but I do think of the show. Like PP said, the hype and association will fade over time.

I think serial killer and then I think "Dexter's Lab" (old 90s cartoon on Cartoon Network). 

I think it's an ok name, but it's not really my style.

I love Dexter. My DH said no way and then we found out we're having a girl anywhere, so moot point.

I like the name and I think it's great with your other two LOs.

Yeah I think Dexter's Laboratory. It just "feels" like a nerdy name to me.

I do automatically think of the TV show, yes.  But I don't think it will be one of those associations that will stand the test of time. 

I love the name otherwise and it's great with your sibset.

I really like Dexter and think it sounds great with Zane.  I don't like how it's 2 syllables ending in -er like Tyler though.

Yep, serial killer all the way.  How about Deacon, Dean or Duncan.

I personally love it! And you're right - right now it will invoke thoughts of the TV show to those who are familiar with it - but no one is going to make that correlation 10 years from now.

For instance - one of our friends recently named her LO Benson. The first thing my husband thought of was Olivia Benson from Law & Order SVU. The first thing I thought of was the African-American butler from the 80's sitcom. Our friend thought of neither one of these.

There will always be someone who can make some kind of comparison with any name you choose. If you like it you should use it.

I love this name, especially nn Dex, but DH shot it down because of the show. I am sad. I told a few other people and they automatically thought of the show too. It's disappointing because I really would have liked to use it. I've never met anyone with this name.

I don't watch the show, but our boston terrier is named Dexter so that's who I think of

Love it!  I haven't watched the show, so no association for me, but it is one of the names DH and I have tossed around.

It was one of our top picks last round, but decided against it because of the Character. We went with Paxton instead.

If you're worried about the association with the show, have you considered Declan? DS is Declan NN Dex.

I find Dexter to be dorky and not in a chic way. The serial killer thing wouldn't bother me. It's a TV show, who cares!

Good catch blue-eyed wife, did not even think of "er" ending. Obviously, trendy does not bother me. Thank you for the input, I am still on the fence about it.
