Carseat stupidity on facebook!!

You gals aren't going to believe this!! A fb friend posted that she bought her 7 month old son a big boy carsest. I didn't think much of it because I assumed she was going to rf a convertible seat. Reading the comments, she said he is 20 pounds now so she turned him ff and "he loves it!" Then there were about 15 comments from girls who were validating this and saying things like "it's dumb that pedis want you to wait 2 years, where do their legs go?" I was shocked that only two people commented that it's so wrong. I commented and linked a youtube video. Oh, the stupidity!!

Ugh. 7 months?? I don't comment at a year but holy crap. That is really early. And usually illegal!

Illinois, so it is very illegal. I just went to her page and she deleted the thread. Probably because a few of us pointed out that it's illegal to turn a 7 mo old ff! I really hope she turns him back around!

That would be great if she did! I know someone who had her DD flipped at 9m. I pointed out that it was illegal and dangerous. She shurgged and said "oh really? I didn't know!" Never flipped her back though.

My DH doesn't care either way as long as he doesn't have to install the car seats.  One of my FB friends posted a picture of her new born twins going home from the hospital and both of them had bulky snow suits on in their car seats.  All I could do was shake my head since she is really just an acquaintance.

Can I ask you carseat mommas what you do on a plane?  The last time we flew L was in a convertible carseat (the Radian) and we had him rearfacing, but the carseat is so big that it prevents whoever is sitting in front of him from reclining his or her seat back.  I told DH that I wanted to offer to switch seats with the person, but neither passenger on the flights said anything to us.  What do you think about FF on a plane?

We are flying in two weeks, I booked the first row in the plane so that we can rear face the car seat, I'm not sure that we would fit in a row with the convertible seat facing forward, we have a Pria and it's fairly wide at the top.  And to lug a car seat through the small aisle in the plane just didn't sound like fun to me. I'll pay the extra $20 per seat any day to have leg room and not have to bang into people with the car seat

I hate people who are stupid about car seats. Turning a kid around at 7 months is not just stupid it is sad all I can say is I hope that mother never gets into a car accident.

Rf on plane since lo can see you easier and I agree more leg room seats are sooo worth it traveling with babies and toddlers

Yeah there is no good solution for the person in front of a car seat on a plane. Rf and they can't recline. Ff and kiddo kicks the seat in front of them. Best solution. Buy that person a drink.
I always dress my kids super cute for flights hoping that their adorableness will override the obnoxiousness.
As far as the car seat thing, yikes. I see so many of the people I know rushing their kids through the car seat stages and I can't figure it out. Why risk their safety over something so silly.

Thanks guys!  I didn't even think about purchasing tickets for the front row -- I think that says something about how cheap I am.   I think I'll take @BeaF12 's suggestion and buy the Cares harness and check our Radian.  My husband is going to be happy about that since he is the one who carries the seat on the plane.  And good idea about super cute outfit.  6+ hours is going to be challenging!

I never recline my seat on a plane unless I'm in first class.  Coach is just too close together!  I don't want someone laying in my lap, so I'm not going to do it to someone else.

Won't let me out of the quote but I feel the same way. On my last flight with Wesley as a lap child tye lady in front of me put her seat all the way back and then flipped her long hair over the back of the seat so it fell right in Wesley's face. I didn't do my vest to stop him fromtugging on it. I figured she deserved it for doing that with a baby behind her
