Babies on the Brain

implantation bleeding? or messed up period?

Please help with some opinions... today is my birthday, and I'm pulling out hair over this.

So my husband finally gave the greenlight to have a 2nd back in May. I stopped taking my birth control pills then. So I've been off them and trying for 10 months now. I temped for a few months, but I was kind of bad about it because we had an odd schedule, so I didn't temp the same times every day. I did get positive ovulation tests a few times just for extra info.

Since I stopped my pills my periods have been VERY regular (same as they were on the pills). Except on the pills I had a 28 day cycle. My average cycle is 26 days now, but I did have 2 cycles of 27. I am kicking myself for forgetting to write down my start date last month, but it was either January 10th, 11th, or 12th.

I think it was the 10th, but I'm not 100%. I've been expecting my period for a few days (though uncertain of the exact day thanks to my forgetfulness). Yesterday I had what I'll call spotting... but it wasn't even spotting. It's more like barely pink discharge and maybe 1 drop of blood when I was checking my cervix. Not even enough to get on my underwear. I took a pregnancy test because I wouldn't be able to sleep if not, and it was negative. I took it again this morning because I won't to relax on my birthday, not have it on my mind all the time. Again negative. Today nothing, not even pink discharge, blood, brown, nada. I do have a little white discharge, but not much. Nothing has changed lately. I haven't come off or started any medicines, and no more or less stress than normal. I went swimming last week (yes, there's over a foot of snow on the ground, but my friend has an indoor pool in her development's clubhouse), and that is the only thing at all that I have done out of the ordinary. Obviously no one can know for sure, and I'm going to have to keep suffering out this waiting game, but what are your thoughts on this? possibilities? probabilities?

Re: implantation bleeding? or messed up period?

  • I'm pretty irregular and just had 4-5 days of spotting. AF came 3 days early and neg preg test. Periods are annoying ESP when you have baby fever!
  • Loading the player...
  • Had you recently had sex when you noticed the spotting? Sometimes that can happen if you check your cervix within a day of sex. I would wait a couple more days and if no AF, test again. Good luck!

  • I had sex 2 days before the spotting. We normally have a very healthy sex life, but this month not so much, but they were all around ovulation.

I try to avoid even thinking about it, but my 2 best friends (who weren't trying, and both are in a poor situaton for it) are both pregnant. I avoid the topic all together with them because it gets me depressed, but when I was asking them if they saved the texts or remember my last period date (we've known each other most of our lives, yes, we talk about that stuff freely) they started filling my head with what I was avoiding. Now I can't shake it. I know I've got no choice but to wait. My cycle has never once since my first period, in 14 years (on or off the pill) been more than 30 days save for when I was pregnant and breastfeeding and didn't even have one, but the fact that I'm not sure of the last date can't even have me saying it's very late either. How long should I wait to test again if I still don't have my period?

I don't mean to sound overly desperate, but it took over 4 years for my husband to agree it was time for a 2nd, and it seems like it's taking an eternity more now... so maybe I am XD My anxiety problems probably don't help, which is why I figured I'd ask for opinions rather than just let nonsense flying around my head.

Thanks for all the input :)

  • Do you know when your positive OPKs were? That might give you a clue as to when your period is "due" but of course not the exact date. My cycles are usually 24-28 days but I had a random cycle in July that was I think 35 days. I thought for sure I was pregnant and tested every other day from CD 28. Turns out I had a UTI and it threw my cycle off. I'm pretty sure I didn't even ovulate that month. It's totally possible every once in a while to just have an off cycle. I would wait a few more days and if no AF, take another test. I know it's hard to wait when it's all you can think about (trust me I know all about that) but at least for me the seeing a BFN is way harder. I like to keep the hope alive as long as I can. It may just be too soon for you to test.

  • No af yet. I didn't take any opks this month or last. I pretty much was not temping correctly because I'd wake up and forget it one day because I woke up at 1pm, and remember it the next because I woke up with an alarm, and the next I'd take it but after I already got up and laid back down, etc. So i didn't bother with the opks because I was just so thrown off. My husband's job just changed around their shifts, so if this is a bfn this time, I'm going to start temping again as I now have a regular schedule instead of the crazy one I had before. I'm not going to hold my breath, if I get my hopes up too high the disappointment just devastates me after. But I really wouldn't mind a bfp valentine's gift 0:-)

  • Start temping.  It's really not that hard.

    Negative test = not pregnant.

And for fuck's sake, mark down when you get your period in the calendar on your phone.  If you start temping with FF, it will monitor these things in a handy dandy little (free) app.  Then, next cycle, you will have no questions.

    It's really not that hard.

Wow, you're neither rude nor negative in the least. Heard of false negatives for testing too soon? I don't have a smart phone. It may come as a shock, but not everybody does. I mark down my start and end date of every period and have for over a year on both a calendar and online. Last month I did not because it corresponded with the predicted date... but I had circled predicted dates on my calendar, and online it had changed. I didn't realize they didn't match up, so now I'm not sure which one it was. I temped for 5 months and some months were inconclusive as I couldn't temp the same times daily (hours difference) and often I'd have to get out of bed before I had the chance. If you do not live under the same schedule as someone else, how can you possibly assume any routine, however easy you feel it is, is as easy for them? and if you'd actually read my comment directly above your own you'd know that I already said I am going to start temping again with this new schedule.

This isn't my first time around. If I needed advice on what more to do to conceive, I'd ask for it. I'm not looking for advice on that, I'm only asking if my current situation means anything at all or not. So you can keep the repetitive condescension to yourself and either give your opinion on the actual question I was asking, or just leave it alone.

Thank you to everyone who did try to answer my question :) I'm going to wait to take another test on the 14th, just to make or break that day, lol.

  • OP, the thing about implantation bleeding is that you won't know that's what it was until you are holding a positive pregnancy test in hand.

It stinks, but you will just have to wait a few days and re-test.

FWIW, I did have implantation bleeding with my first pregnancy, but it was a bit heavier than what you are describing in the OP and lasted about a day and a half.

What I found is that almost everyone that had implantation bleeding was several days or a week before their expected period. My luteal phase is 10 days, so is it possible to have implantation bleeding the day or 1 day before you would expect your period? This month is just all weird. I didn't get any pms symptoms either.... I keep joking that my husband and daughter stole my pms because they are really acting like it when I'm not this time XD

    1. You can't dictate your responses.

    2. Fertility friend has a website as well, not just an app.

    3. No one knows if your current situation means anything because we can't see into your body. Other people's experiences mean nothing to you.

It sucks to wait, but a test will be the only thing that can tell you whether you experienced Implantation bleeding or just random spotting.
I use fertility friend. I already said that I tried to temp, but my schedule made it difficult, but that I was going to start again since my schedule has changed. I'm not trying to dictate responses, I just don't appreciate getting cursed at and talked to like an idiot. There are certainly less crude ways to deliver a advice.

Anyway, in a round about way it was answered here and there. Basically it means nothing, I had a hard time finding that online because I got very mixed answers. I was trying to clarify it. I know, the waiting game does really suck, especially with anxiety problems XD but as I said, I know I don't have much of a choice. Just was trying to see if it really didn't mean much to begin with, or it more likely meant nothing than something.

Thank you for answering everyone :)

My IB started the day I was expecting my period.  I actually thought it was my period, TBH.  I tested after it stopped abruptly (I typically have a 5-6 day period).

  • HI Ladies

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My period was late this month by 3 days- i had  a few cramps the week before but nothing compared to regular period cramps.  My period started off very light was pink and brown, just small spots in my pad- today ( 3 days later) the spots are a bit more red- but there is barely anything on the pad ( haven’t had to change all day- nothing at night) I only notice red blood when i pee and wipe..I am 19 days post ovulation and took a test this afternoon that was neg.

Should i rule out the chance of being pregnant completely?

Thanks, and here’S to hoping for some good news J
