CMV questions

I hope it is ok that I post here.  I know there is a chance that some of you ladies may be able to help me.   I lost my son 3 weeks ago at 24 weeks, due to CMV.  I had never heard of it before and it's so sad what it can do to babies/children.  

I was wondering if any of you have a child with CMV and if you went onto have a second child?  Did you wait to TTC?  My dr does not seemed concerned with the idea of us TTC.  I want to make sure the initial strain of CMV is out of my system.

Thanks for sharing your friend's story.  I'm shocked that I never heard of a virus as common as CMV that can cause so many issues.  I still can't believe that it stole my baby.

Bump. I posted this a few weeks ago and thought I see if anyone else might have thoughts/suggestions in regards to CMV.

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't have personal experience with it but have interacted with others who do since my daughter was born with severe hearing loss and that can be a cause of hearing loss. It is so unfortunate that something that you would barely think about when not pregnant can cause so much devastation for your baby while pregnant. I hope medical care sees greater advances with this eventually to help prevent it from occurring.

CMV is one of the tests that you get tested for in a panel called TORCH test (the C stands for CMV) these can be deadly to babies. I myself as an adult had CMV and didn't know it until I kept running fevers and an infectious disease doc ran a bunch of stuff and said I had CMV.

It is shocking the impact it can have on a child and no one (well with my friends/family) has heard about it. Hopefully they can find some treatment options for it.

Hi Hopefully you're still checking in. I had a miscarriage and I have lyme disease. CMV is often seen in people with lyme or other tick borne infections. Have you screened for this? This is one of the many things people pick up when tick borne disease is supressing the immune system.

I've seen the TORCH test referenced here before, but had no idea what they screened for. I will have to google it.

CMV is very common in adults (50-80%) have it. It's just getting it for the first time while pg that causes issues. My dr gave us the ok to TTC, but I'm worried still. Ugh
