nwmr: rec for luxury spa in CO in summertime?

MH and I are looking to do a long weekend in Colorado this summer, we have never been there, have always wanted to check it out & it is our 10th anniversary...would love something like Canyon Ranch in AZ---- realllllly good food, nice spa, things to do outside nearby, etc. We like to do active things, if there are urban & not so urban nearby, even better. Preferably not far from Denver since it is the only place I think we can fly direct from where we live.
Thanks!

Tons of options. You can stay downtown at something like The Brown Palace, or there are a lot of mountain places. Any of the ski towns offer summer deals. One of my favorite mountain places is Glenwood Springs. They have hot springs, rafting, hiking to hidden lake, mountain biking, horseback riding, shopping, food, spas, etc. The Winter Park/Grand Lake/ Hot Sulphur springs area is nice, and of course Steamboat.
You could always do Boulder, which is closer but has all the mountain activities too. For a nice hotel there I recommend the St. Jullian.
If you're not familiar w/ CO the airport is about 30min away from everything. So you'll need to rent a car or arrange for pickup from your hotel or if you take a cab it's about $50 (plus $50 back makes it worth rentingp).

Thanks! I will check out that magazine and those areas. I was also thinking Vail (or Breckenridge), figuring there will be a lot of options , they don't seem terribly far from Denver and  will have a town/things to do/good restaurants? I was wondering about Steamboat too, a friend is there skiing right now--- is it just some ski places or does it have that mountain resort town feel too? It looks like it is 3 hrs from the airport, so if we are going to drive that far I'd prob look into Aspen too... not sure I want to add a 3 hr drive onto the flight time though, we're only going to be doing a long weekend...hmmmm...then again, maybe that is just the reality of going anywhere outside Denver...?
  • If you want to try a different area in Colorado, the Broadmoor in Co Springs is amazing. It's pricey but it's really spectacular.
