Who has a bottle hater?

So Ellie HATES the bottle. Like screams until she gets the boob or only eats the bare min til I'm available again. Then when she finally gets me back, nurses like she's been starved for days and sometimes even comfort nurses--which she rarely does. We've tried the Medela standard nipples, and the playtex nurser bottle with both the bf nipple and the natural nipple. She does best with the bf nipple but still not great.

On a semi related note, she also hates pacifiers. We've tried four different brands. So maybe she just hates silicone nipples?

So those of you with bottle haters: what do you do when you need to leave baby? Is there one bottle baby likes beat? Do you just leave and come back as fast as possible? Or do you just never leave baby?

I'm thinking that in the next few months, her feedings should spread out and she will be able to go longer between feedings. But I'd like a better solution until then.

Suggestions?

Re: Who has a bottle hater?

  • DD2 hates all bottles and pacifiers. The only bottle she will take is M.A.M., but still kind of fights it and won't eat much. I only work 2 days a week for a max of 7 hours a day, and that's the only time she gets bottles.

No real suggestions, but good luck to you! I hope you find something LO likes so you can get away for a bit!

  • Bottle and pacifiers hater here too. Honestly it doesn't bother me. I've left her countless times with MH or MIL. If I'm gonna be gone more than an hour I leave a bottle and formula. 2 hours is usually my limit. If she gets hungry they will try and she will refuse. She isn't going to starve from 2 hrs without the boob as she gets older I have no problem pushing it back to up to 5 hours away.

  • k hated all bottles and pacis. e hates all bottles and pacis. buuuut she hates the dr brown's bottles the least. and by that i mean she'll take 1-2 oz instead of just spitting it out. have you tried those?

I have dr. Browns but need to wash them and get new nipples. I tried the playtex on a rec.

I'm wondering if I should try and find those brown nipples. Do you know what talking about?

I got a playtex sippy for 4m+. That was a no go too.

I really don't want to keep spending money for nothing. So at this point I'll only try things I don't have to buy/can borrow.
  • Story time-dd2 was the same way. When she was 5 months old I was talking about it with my aunt and her dil. When I mentioned that she wouldn't take a bottle, the dil looked at me like I was crazy and asked how the baby got milk. "like does she drink from a cup instead." She was disgusted when I reminded her that I breastfeed. She even had two very small kids.

  • She hates bottles and pacis. For awhile she would take the playtex drop in bottles. Now she won't take anything. The one night we went out she refused to eat all but 3oz the whole night until I got there. If I leave I will just plan to not be gone for too long. I would hope if she got hungry enough she would eat though. I'm glad I am a SAHM.

  • DS hates all bottles except the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature.  I think it's because the silicone extends really far, so it's more like his face is touching a boob (if that makes any sense).  He also will only take 1 kind of pacifier.  I have no idea what the brand is, all I know is that it is some expensive, all-natural thing from our local baby boutique.  It is shaped similar to the MAM ones.

  • DD1 did better with the dark latex nipples on the playtex bottles. They're hard to find nowadays but I got them for this baby.

DD2 had issues her first two weeks of daycare but now she'll take 3-4 oz at a time. Howeve,r she still comfort nurses the second we walk in the door until bed time. I just let her do whatever.

  • I've tried every bottle under the sun. DS took the nuk one time and dr brown one time. Otherwise he acts like we are trying to poison him. I luckily only live 3 minutes from work so I come home on lunch and feed him.

  • DS is also a bottle and paci hater and until the last 2 weeks REFUSED a bottle and would scream bloody murder at the mere sight.

This is what I did to finally break his bottle hate since I go back to work on Monday and he has to take a bottle.

So I gave him a bottle a day for a week and would always try when he wasn't starving and had recently had a nap and a diaper change. I would only offer an ounce at a time. I'd set him in his RNP in front of me and just rub the nipple on his lips. First he would just play with the nipple and not suck, but eventually he ended up taking it, after a lot of fussing, screaming etc. I just kept at it and was more stubborn than him.

He's now taken 4oz bottles from several different people. He likes the tommee tippee, the avent natural and the comotomo bottles. All others he refused.

Basically I was more stubborn than him which I hated doing to him but I had to since I'm heading back to work.

He still won't take a paci though.

  • Mine won't take a pacifier and dislikes the bottle.  Breastflow bottles work best for us.  I have to go into work on Wednesdays so I have to leave him with DH.  The first days he didn't eat and just made up for it when I came home.  Now he is doing better about taking some of the bottle but still reverse cycles when I am home.  Since not leaving him isn't an option I just give myself pep talks.  He has food and if he is hungry enough he will eat it.  We are providing for his needs but will not force feed him and I just brace myself for more nursing upon my return.

  • Mine detests every pacifier out there. He hates the bottle and will scream and fuss during his one feeding. However, he had to learn to get past it because of the need to supplement and my working. It is hard on H, who gives it to him, but they work through it.

  • DD1 hated the bottle at 4 months we started using a tommy tippee cup. She loved it. They have one that is for three months and up.

DD3 dislikes bottles but will use the nipple from the premade infamil bottles well enough, she does fight it. She hates BM in the bottle. She only likes it from the tap.

I haven't left him for more than 2 hours...that's how I deal! Apparently between screams, he was able to swallow almost half an oz, which is an improvement compared to my dd. She preferred to spit/choke/drown than take a bottle. We're using avent bottles, which is eventually what my daughter took. I don't plan on changing bottle types, he'll get used to it.

Eta: also no pacifiers for us, same as dd.

  • We're having bottle issues too, sort of. He also periodically refuses the boob though so I'm not sure it's the bottles. We've tried the Tommee Tippee Closer to nature, Avent Naturals (?), Dr. Brown wide ones, and a few other random bottles I had left over from DS1. I think I'm going to hit up my neighbors and see what I can borrow for daycare next week. We've got to solve this not eating during daylight issue because I'm tiiiired.

He does take a paci but isn't super into it. And he will drink from the bottle, just not a lot.

  • DD is really picky with bottles.  It took us trying 5 different ones before she decided she liked the tommee tippee bottles and medela.  Her breast milk also has to be very warm, or she will not eat it.

Good luck!  That's got to be hard...
  • I had been given some Tommee Tippee by a friend and tried them without any success for a while with DS. He just ended up with milk all over him, but granted I was also the one offering them and so he just wanted a boob instead. Based on recs on here I got the Dr Browns bottles with the premie nipples and it was like night and day. He will drink some from them for me, but still prefers to nurse. When I was home for Christmas though, there were several times I went out and my mom fed him and he ate all 3 oz I left both times and has never spit any milk out while eating. I don't think this is exactly the problem you are having, but my two cents on the issue. DS usually won't take a pacifier as well unless he is really tired and trying to fall asleep while in his car seat.

  • My baby hated medela nipples. Then we tried the Playtex vent air and she was fine with those.

Side note: I thought the title was who has a bottle heater and was ready to make my rec. Lol
