New to The Bump

New and needing advice!

Hi ladies, I'm new here but hoping someone can shed some light on my situation.

My last period was 12/12-12/16.  A little history, I have been on BC since I was 17, I'm 32.  I got off the pill and the first month we tried we conceived.  All sounds great but here's where it gets rocky...

First appointment--hormone levels 10025 and progesterone level 20.7 and cervix check all looked well

Second appointment--saw gestational sac and yolk sac, measured at 5 weeks 1 day (which was 2 weeks earlier than we thought, but again with only having one period before conceiving it is hard to know when I ovulated), ultrasound technician seemed positive, dr mentioned d n c should things not start to look up and that my measurements didn't match my hormone level.

Third appointment (today)--saw gestational sac, yolk sac, fetal pole and what was believed to be a faint heart beat, ultrasound technician seemed positive...but doctor said he wasn't satisfied though because I measured at 5 weeks 6 days (7 days after last weeks)...he basically told us things didn't look promising but that we would schedule one last appointment to see if that was a heart beat today or not and if not its safe to assume its not good.

I'm soooo confused!  If I am only 6 weeks why are they discussing D n C with me and talking about it not being a viable pregnancy?  I have heard it can take up to 10 weeks to hear the heartbeat, what if our baby is just slow growing?  I don't want to give up and I wont until they can prove to me that there is something wrong, but I just don't know what to think.  Anyone been through this?  Help!

Not quite 6 weeks is very early to see a heartbeat. I'd find another doctor. And why are you having all of these appointments? For a typical pregnancy, you take an HPT at home and don't see a dr until you're around 8 weeks or so. What's the backstory on this?

  • You usually don't see a heartbeat till around 10 weeks. In most cases all you see is the sac till you're around 8-10 weeks which is when most doctors schedule your first US.. I agree with @Dr.Loretta, find a new doctor.
