Diaper Refusal

Since I am not the only one dealing with this.  What are you ladies doing?  We bought a potty but I have not had the energy to properly use it daily this week.   It is a legit battle with the diapers some days and I have thought about just letting her go the naked potty training route.  We have wood floors so they are easy clean up but I just think she is too little and will have a bad regression as I have heard horror stories.   If I say I have to go to the bathroom, or pee, she will take my hand and walk in there and go tell me potty.   She will only sit on her potty for a little while.   What do you ladies think about potty training and the right time?  Is 18 months or so too young?  STM advice?  edit lol

My mom says my youngest sister was potty trained at 18 months, but I think it is too young to force it.

If she is interested, let her sit on it. If not, no big deal. That's kind of what we did with DD starting around this age. She liked to try sometimes and we gave her stickers if she did her business in the potty, but we didn't make a push to move to underwear until she was 2.5.

DS wants to sit on the little potty because he sees DD do it, but he is only interested in sitting for about 2 seconds (and has not peed in it yet). And I think that's fine for now.

But maybe from the title of your post, your DD is refusing diapers, which I haven't dealt with yet. I was answering just from a general potty training standpoint.

ETA: Ah yes, I see it in the FFFC now that your DD is refusing diapers. I guess I would be more likely to start potty training at this age if I was having that kind of issue. Have you tried Pull-Ups? Maybe if she could put it on herself (or help), she would be more willing to wear something. Or underwear with a plastic training pant over it to contain the mess? If she really won't sit on the potty, I would probably try one of those first...

  • FtM here, so I'm just going through this. Around 16 months DD was peeing a lot of times when i took her diaper off to change her. I bought a seat to put on the big potty just to see if she would go becuse i was tired of multiple messes everyday. So i sat her on there occasionally and whenever she went i got really excited for her. We've been at it casually since then and she does tell me whenshe has to go sometimes. If its been a little while since she's been wet I'll ask her if he needs to go and she usually does. One day i tried having her go every hour amd she was not a fan so i dont think she's 100% ready to be fully potty trained. All of that was to say i totally think its possible with an 18 month old, but obviously depends on the kid. Sorry for typos, on my phone.

  • our lo isn't refusing diapers yet, although is definitely not a fan ( when I go to change him, he will constantly try to pull up his pants with no diaper on, fun times!). He does recognize when he goes pee, and will tell me. He also knows when I have to go pee we go to the bathroom and he will follow me.  So he's starting to get there, but definitely not ready yet.   But i'm glad to see other people are seeing similar cues!  =)

  • We do have a potty but she sits on it for 2 seconds too. Hopefully she will just get over her diapers are evil stage soon. I can't imagine how it is to potty train little boys to aim :)

  • Oh my, we're seriously considering this due to the absolute rage Evie goes through at diaper time. Sometimes I can get her to chill if I sing, but it's really crappy. Ugh.

  • I think it can't hurt to let her try the potty, but I agree with the others: too early to pursue tp seriously.
