NBR- Oil cleansing method

I know some have you guys have talked about doing this. I think I'm going to give it a try.

For those who do it, did you go through a "transition phase", where your skin acted funny? What oil/oil blends do you use?

Has anybody tried it and quit? Why?

TIA, lovelies!

Re: NBR- Oil cleansing method

  • I do a modified version that I just figured out on my own that works for me. First I stopped washing my face with (Dove) soap in the morning. In the morning I only rinse with water and moisturize with Neutrogena oil free moisturizer with SPF 15. At night I wash with dove soap using my clarisonic and then moisturize with coconut oil. As soon as I stopped washing with soap in the morning I noticed a big skin improvement. I never had any breakouts or had a transition phase from changing up my method.

  • I use Josie Maran cleansing oil, love it! No transition period for me.

  • Following - I have everything to start and haven't bc I'm dreading a transition period. I was going to use a grapeseed/castor oil blend.

  • I started off using an olive oil/castor oil blend, but even with significantly reducing the castor oil, my skin just always felt dry and flaky. I started using plain old olive oil to wash and then using a dab as moisturizer too. My skin has never looked better. However, when I was pregnant, this stopped working, and I had to use something different. I'm back to just olive oil now, and I love it. It's cheap, I don't have to worry about packing it for trips because anywhere we go somebody will have it--I'm a big fan. My skin type is dry-ish with an oily t zone. I've never been able to leave the house without some sort of foundation coverage, but now I can, and I feel pretty confident!
  • I started using a grapeseed, castor and coconut oil blend (based on what I thought was my skin type and lots of internet blog reading) and my face went crazy. I use straight coconut oil now, and moisturize with argan oil and I no longer get the crazy, painful cystic acne that has plagued me all of my life. I am a happy convert to oil.

What is your skin type? I researched and came up with the grapeseed/castor oil blend for me (really dry with some oily T zone) so I'm curious. I read a few things steering away from using coconut or olive oil.

  • I had heard that olive oil would make oily skin worse, but with using a mineral powder foundation, I don't seem to get too oily--if I see some sheen I just dust a tiny bit more of the powder on with a big brush that makes the coverage sheer. I have found that if I skip a night of using the oil (I use one full dropper, rub it in with a massage, and then place a steaming wash cloth over my face, wipe it off, and rub a few more dots in as moisturizer) my skin is dry feeling the next day. But when I use the oil every night (I don't use anything in the morning), I have really great skin--no break outs at all, not even one pimple. My skin before washing it this way was fairly uneven with regular breakouts--not horrible, but at least 2-3 pimply areas a week.
  • Oh, I've been using the cleansing method for a total of 3 years and switched to just olive oil about a year ago.
  • I did olive oil/castor oil mix for a while.  I never noticed a difference in my skin from when I didn't use it - so I quit, as it wasn't really worth the extra effort for no results.

I have this skin type and have seen great results with the coconut oil, but do still get zits. Do you have a link to a site about the different types of oil?
It was a while ago, but I'll try to find them next time I'm on my computer (not mobile). I may have bookmarked them!

I have dry skin that is prone to breakouts and both of these oils have given me problems. Even though I have decently dry skin the olive oil was too heavy for me and I had never experienced something being "too heavy" for my skin before!

I've been using the OCM for a year now and my favorite is the Alba Kukui Nut Oil with just a dab of castor oil (but not always with the castor oil- just on occasion). My skin also loves almond oil. I've read that apricot seed oil is supposed to be close to the skin's natural oil but I didn't love it- I needed more moisturization. I use jojoba oil in the shower and it's okay and Vitamin E oil at night and I like it. I've also heard that avocado oil is good but I've had friends who had problems with it (different skins types). I had a friend who tried it for a month and couldn't seem to get the right mixture of oils so she stopped. I'm surprised that my skin has take so well to it because usually when something works for everyone else's skin it won't work for mine.

For me personally I never had a transition periods but within two days my skin was visibly different. It was brighter, smoother, cleaner-looking and the weird clogged pores by my eyes unclogged. I would never go back to face wash again. I hope you like it!
