My husband's grandfather's name was Joseph. He was known to my husband as "grandpa Joe" and my husband is still called by his grandma "Joe jr.". His grandfather passed away a little over two years ago. My husband is very set on naming our child after him if we have a boy. I would like to honor this request, with out using Joseph as a first name if possible. I have always said, even before I knew my husband, that I never wanted a Joe. I do realize that Joey could be the nickname, but as he would be named after his grandfather who was called "Joe" I doubt my husband would stick to "joey".
Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative names that could maybe make us both happy?
I am open to using it as a middle name, my husband really wants it as a first name.
Also, I have been thinking about the possibility of Joel. My hisband's father's name is Les (Leslie) and I thought that might be a good way to honor both of them. But I am definitely open to other suggestions! Thank you!
Re: Alternatives to Joseph?
I like Joel a lot as a compromise.
Otherwise, maybe you could check out foreign variations of Joseph and see if any appeal to you?
