Anyone with a clotting disorder? WARNING: recent MC mentioned

edited February 2014 in Parenting after a Loss
Please don't read if you are extra sensitive. I have just miscarried and I don't want to upset anyone but I don't know where else to ask my question. If this is not the appropriate place, I am truly sorry. Please let me know. I am only posting here because I am hoping to hear success stories.

I just had my follow up appointment after my D&C following my 2nd miscarriage. My doctor informed me that she is almost certain I have a blood clotting disorder. And I will spare you gory details but when I was trying to miscarry naturally it seemed as though she is probably right.

A little info on me:
I have a 14 month old DS. No complications with him. Never had probs getting pregnant, just recently having problems staying pregnant. It's strange to me how this clotting disorder came out of the blue. I am getting genetic tests done in a month to be sure.

My question is, have any of you been in my similar position with clotting disorders? If so, how is your pregnancy going and what was the treatment plan? Is there anything I should point out or questions I should ask when I get the tests done in a month? Are there foods I should avoid/eat to help?

My OB seems optimistic so I am cautiously optimistic as well. Hoping to hear some stories about your rainbow babies. Thank you all so much!

  • I took lovenox shots everyday I was pregnant, it was no big deal. My son is completely healthy. It's hard to offer any real advice without knowing what blood disorder you may have, but if something turns up that will likely be the protocol. Or a baby aspirin regiment depending on the type.
Fish oil is a natural blood thinner, and baby aspirin is over the counter, but you really should hold off until your test results come back -seems like your dr. Is being pretty proactive.

(((HUGS))) I am so sorry for your loss. I was diagnosed with DIC after my ectopic pregnancy loss. Basically what happened was my entire stomach and right thigh turned black from bruising after the surgery (it later turned purple, then blue, and then green) and in my case the problem only occurs if I have some sort of trauma or serious injury. It did not affect any of my deliveries and I was told it would be unlikely that I would even have that type of bruising with a normal delivery or even a c-section.

My advice is to get a diagnosis...there may be things they can do for it, or there may not be anything they can do. A lot of the issues end up being no big deal in the scheme of things. I hope you can find answers and your doctor is proactive with you in the future.

  • So sorry for your loss.

After my second loss, DH and I went through an absolutely insane amount of testing and diagnostic procedures. The popular medical opinion seemed to be "one loss= terrible luck, two losses+=symptom of something wrong". However, for many of us, DH and I included, an actual diagnosis or reason for the losses is never found. Due to the timing and circumstances surrounding my second loss, they guess that it was due in part do a blood clotting issue, though it never showed up in my tests. During my third pregnancy, I was on aspirin and a low dose blood thinner, among a few other things. My son was born healthy and full-term last January. If we ever have more children, we will be using the same medications just in case.
