Tattoos!

I know we've talked about tattoos before we had our LOs, but is anyone getting one specifically for their LO? Name, initials, DOB, symbol, horoscope sign etc? Include pictures if you have them! I'm thinking about getting one as my first tattoo but not sure yet.

Re: Tattoos!

  • I have a tiger lily on my ribcage. I named Lily after that flower. But I don't think I'll add anything to it

  • I know I want to get something (maybe a half sleeve) just not sure what it will be yet. And I can't really justify spending the money right now :(

  • I'm going to get one that incorporates all my kids and I can add future children. I just have no idea where or what to get.
  • I got his birthday in Roman numerals on the outside of my wrist/arm and his footprint on my foot.

  • I have four (small) tattoos, three of which stand for my faith (a cross, Greek lettering for faith.hope.love, and the trinity in a 3 leaf clover) and the 4th is DHs name. I will be getting one for LO, just not sure what or where. As PP said, I want to be able to add to it for future kids.

  • My DH is getting LO's footprints next Monday. He hasn't decided if he wants to add any lettering yet. I want another one and was thinking about getting just one footprint. I'm going to wait to see how DHs comes out.
  • I would love to make my tatoo more feminine (it's a supercool tribal from the 90's) and incorporate DS and DD but I just can't see spending the money on something like that right now. Or because I feel too old to be adding to my tramp stamp lol

  • I have three tattoos... All with private meaning and love them all. I always make sure they are discreet. Except I do have psalm 91 - just that, not the entire book - written on my wrist. But it has never been an issue, even as an administrator at a college. Some folks would ask what it meant and I would tell them to look it up... Forcing them to read the Bible ;-)

I did Romans 12:9 in roman numerals. I tell people the same thing.

  • I think, still not completely sure, I'm going to get duck prints with water rippling, like they are walking, up my side to cover some scars I have. There will be two larger prints with baby ones after like babies following mama duck. There's an artist here that does amazing watercolor tats and I can't wait to see what he makes out of the idea.
  • DH has 3 dragons on his chest and part of his arm for our girls who were born the year of the dragon. He wants to add a snake for DS. I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet. I'm thinking I will start a sleeve
  • @sailortink, I got my wrist tattooed when our first was just 6 weeks. There are no definitive answers. I trust my artist immensely and his studio and all implements are cleaner than some of the hospitals I've worked in. Some artists won't tattoo you but mine is a friend as well. Of all my tattoos it healed the best and the fastest. I subbed bm for the ointment.

  • I plan to get LO's name (Isaac) in Hebrew on my wrist. I was going to get it sooner, but a lot of the research said it was a no go if you bf so I'm waiting to be safe.
  • @whitterpow, just cause im interested what resource? I'm just wondering...

@mavgirl_73 I can't remember other than several articles on the internet and that one of them was reputable. I'll see if I can find one of them, but basically as soon as I found one that said not to I decided to just play it safe. Just found the one I remember looking at. It's from the La Leche League website. That was enough to have me decide to wait, but I'm sure it's not really a big deal.

Just as an FYI for those wondering. LLL doesn't say that it isn't safe but rather that they recommend that you wait until baby's first birthday to allow your body to heal. And since they promote extended breastfeeding I'm sure there would be just as much "risk" for your baby at 8 weeks as at 1yr. Just saying. If your tattoo shop is following universal precautions then you're just as safe to get a tattoo while nursing as you are prior to being pregnant.

Edited: no need to provide a link twice.
