Do you have any good stories from your labor?

Re: Do you have any good stories from your labor?

  • In retrospect, I feel super positive about my L&D, regardless of the pain level I know I experienced. But a few things will always stand out in my mind:

    - I went to a Medical Associates that was part of a large chain of clinics for my prenatal care. All the midwives and OBs at the clinics round at the hospital so I knew the chances of getting my midwife, who I absolutely adore, were going to be slim. And then who shows up 12 hours into labor?? My midwife!! She was excited to see me too and was so hellbent on being the one to deliver my baby she left another midwife to stitch up another woman so she could come deliver my LO.

    - About 20 hours post-induction I was no longer able to talk myself through contractions and was so tense that I was fully thinned but not progressing much with dilation. My midwife recommended an epidural to help relax me. I get epidural, still feel immense pressure and new pain in my hip. The nurse comes to catheterize me and she sees the head!! My amazing midwife was right - the epidural really did speed things along!

    - My husband kept making faces while I was pushing (he was looking against his will) and that would make me laugh to the point where my midwife had to tell him to stop because he was messing with the pushing process.

All in all, despite the pain and the pooping, I had a great L&D!! (Or at least I remember it fondly ;-)).

  • I was in labor for a month! I went into preterm labor at 7 1/2 months they gave me meds to take at home to stop contractions and it worked until i was at 35 weeks. I was having regular contractions that just kept getting worse and worse, i went in at 38 weeks and 2 days and was completely effaced but only a 1cm. I went back the next day cause i couldn't walk through them and was only 1.5cm , they gave me a pain shot and told me to go home and sleep, if they wake me up we will know I'm in real labor. I never was able to sleep cause the pain was so bad. I ended up rolling around on the floor crying for almost 12 hours when i suddenly had to pee, hubby was asleep cause he had work in the morning, it was 2am when i tried to go to the bathroom and the pain was so bad I screamed he came running out of the room and i said "i don't care what they say take me back something is wrong".
We got to the hospital around 2:30am and they checked me i was at a 3, my contractions were 10 mins apart, they came back in an hour i was at a 4. They had me walk from triage to they labor room and in that time i went to a 5. They started getting everything ready for my epideral, took about and hour and when i got it i was at a 6.5 contractions still 10 mins apart, this was at 7:30am. My epideral was so good i ended up falling asleep, they woke me up around 8 to break my water and i fell back asleep. My nurse kept coming in to check on me but i was still sleeping everytime she came in. Around noon she came in and and i was awake so she checked me i was at and 8, my hubby said he didn't want to see anything, till she made the comment about being able to see the head already, he looked almost past out lol. He had just called my mom and told her she still had some time before she needed to be there. The nurse gave me pitocin cause they were STILL 10 mins apart and 5-10 mins later said i needed to start pushing, hubby called my mom said she needed to get up there asap, i ended up "practice" pushing for an 1 and half before they called my OB in cause my lil guy was right there! The Dr ended up being in the room for an hour trying to get him to come out, he was head down but side ways, the Dr had to turn him as he came out. I remember the Dr telling me to shoot him to the ceiling cause he was coming out at a 90 degree angle at one point. In the end my Dr made me laugh during a contraction and that's what got him un stuck and it was smooth sailing from there, i ended up tearing on the inside when they had to turn him though, but when he came out and started crying i did too, i said hello and his eyes shot open and he looked at me and got quiet, till they started cleaning him up.
i was so proud of my hubby to, he went into the room saying he didn't want to see anything and he doubt want to cut the cord, but after the first look and almost pass out he ended up watching everything, at one point he was so close trying to see the Dr asked him if he wanted to deliver him lol he also cut the cord and then teared up when our lil guy started crying. It was hell but i would go through it all again if i had to. :)

As the Mom~I was there to experience my youngest daughter's 2nd son's birth. Ashley lived with me throughout her entire pregnancy, and I spent so much time with her & her tummy. Lots of "Tummy Talk" and feeling my grandson kick & move all around. I'd never had the chance to get so close to both my daughter & grandchild in vitro. It was a vvery Beautiful time in my life.
My daughter suffered from some serious back problems during the pregnancy, which made her pretty miserable, most of the time. She began to experience pains in the groin area & the back as well, weeks in advance.
Finally, on July 31st, 2014, when she woke-up to go to the bathroom, she had "bloody show." This was it!
That day I also had my chemo treatment. My daughter went to the same hospital that I had to go get my treatment. My chemo would take at least 6 hours, so I was really hoping to get done in time. Luckily I did~with just over an hour to spare.
When I arrived at my daughter's room, she was sound asleep. Actually enjoying relief for the first time in a long time. She woke up just in time to deliver. She pushed for less than 10 minutes, maybe 6 times, and my handsome grandson was born into the World! No tearing, no cutting, & he came out looking at us all... "Sunny-Side-Up!"
Colton Xavier weighed 7lbs 8oz & was 19 1/2" long, with a 14" head. He was really upset while the nurses were cleaning him up so I went right over to him. As soon as I spoke to him, he turned towards my voice & was soothed. Looks like all that Tummy Talk paid off! He already knew his grandma.
