Success after IF

Anybody from around the San Francisco area?

There is a chance my hubby will be attending a conference for work in San Francisco at the end of March. No way am I not joining him for the weekend!!

So I'm from Canada, what is the weather like at the end of March? And what are some family friendly affordable things to do? Planning on bringing Hannah. Thanks!

Re: Anybody from around the San Francisco area?

  • I'm nowhere near there, but am half tempted to go there for the weekend just to meet you, haha!
I went there for a vacation once, and really enjoyed touring Alcatraz island, fisherman's wharf and pier 39, and the aquarium of the bay. The exploratorium was pretty cool too, there was a park and a duck pond around it if I recall correctly. I think it's pretty pleasant weather there year round. But gets pretty chilly (to me) in the evenings, so take a sweater or hoodie.
What a great trip, have fun!

  • I used to live in SF, and you could always tell who was a tourist because they would be wearing a hastily purchased fleece with SF embroidered on it in the middle of the summer.

It is pretty cool year round, more so in the winter and spring. it is supposed to rain in the winter and spring, too. But they are having a drought, so maybe no rain in March. Go and have fun. It is a great city to walk around, so bring a decent stroller.

  • I live right across the bay about 20 mins from SF! The weather in March is typically in the 50's-60's. It's really hit or miss whether it will be cloudy or sunny but you'll usually always need a jacket.

I recommend the Academy of Sciences Aquarium! It's pretty large and may be a little overwhelming for Hannah but they just remodeled and it's fabulous. It's not the cheapest thing to do but nevertheless worth the $$.

Pier 39 is great. It's free to walk with tons of cute souviner shops and food. They have resident seals outside the pier that Hannah would love.

Another fun free thing to do is go to the Ferry Building Marketplace. On Saturdays they have a great farmers market until 2 I think. Just a great place to stroll around that has amazing views of the Bay and Bay Bridge.

Not sure your transportation situation but just FYI, if you're driving it can be a bit overwhelming for those not used to it, and parking garages are freakin' expensive just as a heads up. Otherwise public transportation is readily available.

    Hope you have fun!!

  • Have fun!! We are down in Southern California, but San Fran is one of my absolute favorite places to go. On top of everyone's suggestions, we also really enjoyed the zoo. We usually do public transportation and walking... much easier than driving.
