Re: Open Letter Thursday

  • Dear Advocate,

I pay you a lot for your expertise. I'd really like your input on these revised IEP goals and benchmarks. The district is open to a collaboration, but I have no effing clue what I'm doing. I need you to respond to my e-mails sooner rather than later, please.

    Thanks,

  • Dear DD1 --

I really, really hope you get your Fact Tracker book today that you want to borrow from the library. You can't reach it because it's on top of a tall shelf, and you were SO upset last night at even the prospect of asking the librarian for help. Role-playing, talking about librarian's jobs and coming up with a plan only seemed to help so much, but you seemed to feel better this morning.

I've got my fingers crossed for you, kiddo. You can do this.

    Love,
    Mama

  • Dear whoever stole my phone at the mall today,

Please just freaking turn it in! You have no idea how pissed I'm going to be if I lose all those pictures of my son and everything else on my phone because an asshole like you pocketed it. Just so you know, I already contacted my provider and had the service shut off, so good luck making any use of it. By the way, today was my birthday, so thanks for the gift of theft...

    Sincerely,
A frustrated woman who WILL press charges if she catches you.

    Dear Meeting tomorrow,

Please go well.  I'm really not sure what will be in the behavioral plan since DS pulled it together months ago and his teacher described him recently as "perfectly behaved". I'm glad we're still doing it and taking the proactive approach after the painful transition earlier this year.

I hope the discussion about repeating Kindergarten goes well too.  This will be the first time the principal has attended any of the several meetings this year so it'll be interesting to see her take on the situation.

    Sincerely,

DS's mom and equal member of his team

    Dear Hawaii,

We're coming for you and I can't wait.

    Love,
The family who has never met you

    Dear Sis,

I can't wait to share in your wedding ceremony.  You and SIL are one of the most amazingly perfect for each other and happy couples I have ever met.

    Love,
    Your Little Sis

PS. I'm totally going to cry.
ETA: The school psych is out sick today so the meeting is postponed.

Is there an update? I recognize myself in her situation and I'm pulling for her.

Unfortunately -- or maybe fortunately? -- she had a well-check appointment yesterday that I made months ago, and I didn't realize it was going to coincide with library time. So we did all that prep and she didn't even get to try.

But she also said she's ready to do it next week. I don't know if that's because next week seems far away and so she's not anxious about it yet, or because she's done enough processing that the fear has worn off and she's looking at it a little more objectively.

Side note: I got home that morning and realized we'd FORGOTTEN the book she needed to return in order to get another one. ::facepalm:: So I got straight back in the car and took it to her at school. Her teacher saw me hand her the book and said, "Oh, did you get it for her?" meaning the fact tracker. I just said no, but internally, I'm like, "NO, I didn't just get it for her! WTH would I step in like that, just to have a temporary fix that does nothing to address the issue?! What kind of parent do you think I am??" LOL. I can be a leeetle sensitive about the possibility of being a parent who excessively coddles their kid.

Of course, I did bring the return-book to her instead of allowing that to be a natural consequence; but I figured she had enough on her plate already. And then she didn't even get to do library time. Siiiiigh. I'll be glad for a do-over myself, honestly!
