Pool?

Anyone take their LO in a pool yet?  Are the chemicals too harsh for their skin do you think?  We have a warm therapy pool at our gym and they have family times (DD1 loves going but I haven't been able to take her since LO was born).

Re: Pool?

  • That sounds fun, but I would hestitate doing it this young. Ask the pedi. Maybe if you washed baby off right after.

  • I would ask your pedi. If it was a family pool that may not be so heavily chlorinated I would probably do it, but a public pool is going to be heavily chlorinated, especially if little kids go in it. If you do, I would make sure you wash baby good after and put cream on so lo doesn't get too dry.

  • I agree.  My skin gets super dry after being in that pool.  That's what made me wonder if it was a good idea or not.  I'll wait until LO's 2 month appointment and ask the pedi.

  • I also don't know if they make swimmer diapers this small!

  • I read after 2 months in an outdoor pool but to avoid indoors because the chlorine concentration in the air is too high and may cause asthma. I still think 2 months is too young so I'm waiting until 6 months or whenever I feel comfortable.
  • Our club has an outdoor pool but if we had an indoor pool I would already have dd in with me for a short time. I would just make sure to rinse her off right after.
  • DS1 was a May baby. My pedi told me 3 months for him.
