moving in

Hi June mommies

we are in the midst of moving into our new house which is exciting. My only problem is unpacking. With two kids under 3. I just am not getting enough unpacking done. By the time my hubby gets home and we do dinner and baths the night just disappears. I work on it at night but I can only stay up so late. Any one else move with little one(s)? How did you manage your time? Or entertain LO?

Re: moving in

  • We moved a week ago too. I just have the 1 LO but it's tricky for sure. I've honestly done the bulk at night after work and putting him to bed. Also my parents came over on Saturday to entertain L so I could just get the whole kitchen unpacked. Right now I'm just concentrating on getting through the boxes, I set up the baby's room and everything else has found a temporary home. I'll reorganize little by little but the boxes being gone made it felt a little less overwhelming.

  • Moved with a 3 month old back in August.  Still not unpacked.

Try throwing LO on your back or in a carrier so you can get some stuff done :)

  • You are right. Just have to take a breath. The boy's rooms are set up. Kitchen us almost there. It was all looking pretty good till our storage Pod showed up with the things we packed away in the name of showing our previous house.

  • You all make me nervous.  We're moving next month and I just can't imagine how I'm going to swing it.  However - you all have managed it, so there's hope!

Aw don't worry, moving is always a pain but you'll figure it out. What helped me the most was to make a 'night night' bag. It was every single thing I needed to do his sleep routine including the bed sheets. That way I knew I could at least get his room in a useable place first thing and that took some of the stress off.
  • Moved in October with a 3 mo. old. I wear her allthetime. We aren't even close to unpacked- we mainly focused on tackling the needed rooms (her diaper area, our room, kitchen, bathroom, living room). We're now set up in her room, our room, kitchen, bath, living, dining. Two other bedrooms, etc, not even close. We use one bedroom and the basement as "staging" and just pull out a box at a time and try to get some done on weekends. Weekdays don't work out with both of us working.

  • I moved in September and I still have stuff in the garage that I want/need in the house. Our house looked like a tornado touched down for a few weeks when we first moved in. Little by little we put stuff away. We've been at a standstill with the holidays and now it's too freaking cold to go sifting through anything in there. I run out to grab a bin of the kids' clothes and bring it in to sort through. When the weather warms back up a bit I'll go back out there to bring some of the non-essential stuff in. I'm not sweating it.

  • We moved in sept and I managed to unpack most things in a month on the weekends. My hubby helped a ton with unpacking and when the baby was sleep we moved bigger items to where they needed to be.
What also helpe was putting boxes fr each specific room in that room or place them in the home where you don't have to move things to get to what you need.

    Great tips. Thank you.

so sorry. I did not mean to make any one nervous. You'll do great. We are making progress. Seems like the general concensus is that it is ok to do a little at a time. Happy packing :)

  • We moved in October, with a 2.5 year old and a 5 month old.  A few boxes remain.  We were able to get large chunks of the unpacking done on the weekends my husband wasn't working, but it sucked.  And the boxes we didn't want to deal with at the time ended up in storage.
