Baby all of a sudden falling asleep on his own?

DS is 10.5 months old.  He's been a nightmare to get to sleep since birth.  Pretty much the only way I've found is rocking with a bottle until he's out, then putting him in his crib.  I've tried to do cry it out a few times, but he gets so hysterical that he ends up vomiting on himself, so I gave up on that a while ago.

Fast forward to the last 2 days, and all of a sudden, he's going to sleep on his own in his crib with either just a couple minutes of crying or 15-20 minutes of playing!  Also, this morning he slept until 8am.  He's almost always up by 6:30am or earlier.

I'm a little worried that he might be getting sick?  He seems fine, but I'm just so confused as to why he's not fighting sleep over the last couple of days.

Looking for someone else who's experienced this to give me hope that he's just getting older and this will be his new normal!

As odd as it sounds I have found that when kids are sick it can often work in our favor to set new sleep expectations as they are more tired and go down easier.  They can get used to going down awake then stick with it when well.  As much as I hope your baby is not sick...if he is and he's comfortable and putting himself to sleep go with it and try to keep it going as long as possible!!

DD started STTN on her own out of the blue.  Surprised me when I actually got 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep!  As for putting her to sleep, I usually rock her most of the way before putting her down.  We've had to let her cry a little once or twice but she usually just crawls around her crib a bit then falls asleep.  Hopefully your LO isn't sick and has just decided to stop fighting going to sleep!

I've been afraid to say it out loud (or type it), but I SO hope this is the case!  You have no idea how hard this kid fights sleep.  It's honestly been my least favorite part of being a parent.

THANK YOU!!  You give me hope.  I still really don't think he's sick, but he slept later than normal this morning too.  We had a little trouble getting him to sleep last night, but I think it was just because he was hungry.

Another crazy thing happened for us this morning.  When my alarm went off at 6:30am I checked the monitor because I hadn't heard DD yet and she was sitting up in her crib playing quietly with her lamb toy - I have no idea how long she'd been awake!  She didn't make a peep until she heard DH getting up to take the dog out.  So weird . . .

That's great!  Luckily, this is one problem we don't have.  He always wakes up and plays/talks in the mornings.  I've let him stay in there for 30 minutes or so before while I'm getting ready for work, and he always just hangs out till I come get him.  We were definitely blessed in that department.  You're gonna learn to love it if she'll keep doing that

Yes, my DD all of the sudden at 9 months and 3 days started not waking up twice to eat in the middle of the night. The first week I kept thinking it must be a fluke. lol

My son's seemed to have magically improved kind of out of the blue.  I don't question it, I just go with it and hope it lasts!
