Natural Birth in CT - need advice

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone on this blog has had a natural birth in CT and where they had it.  Currently, I'm debating between Bridgeport hospital, St. Raphael's, Yale, and leaning towards St. Vincents.  I believe that St. V's is the only hospital with a natural birthing unit inside of the actual hospital.  I know that at Bridgeport you can't deliver in water but I'm not sure about Yale or St. Raphael's.  Has anyone had the natural experiece at any of these places?  I need to go tour St. Vincent's but from what I can tell online it looks like their birthing suites are very comfy with a large bed and look more like apts than a hospital room.

I appreciate any feedback!

Thanks!

    Hi,

I also want to have a natural birth and have research the area hospitals/birthing centers quite a bit.  I finaly decided on St. Vincent's since it's the only hospital near me that will allow the actual birth to take place in water (not just laboring in the water).

I switched from an OB to the Circle For Life Midwifery - I love it!  I also am taking the Bradley classes with George and Nancy - I am very happy with all of our choices and looking forward to a natural birth!

Congrats on the decision to go natural! For some reason the idea of maternity units having laboring tubs you have to get out of once it's time to push annoyed the heck out me. Why would I want to get comfortable somewhere and then have hospital staff tell me I had to get out. Just didn't seem to go with the environment I was trying to go with.  I ended up choosing St. Vincent's for my first this October with Circle for Life Midwifery. Love the facility and love my midwife. I guess because it's my first I'm a little option crazy but I'd like to be able to use an coping strategy available. Good luck!

I am a FTM, but we're currently taking a childbirth class with a nurse from Yale (the class is not affiliated with Yale, though). She has really promoted medication free birth, but also educating yourself to know if you want to request it. I'm very impressed, because being pressured to take meds has been a huge fear of mine! I posted on this topic earlier... can't seem to find the link. But many mamas assured me of a great experience at Yale, and feeling their choices for birth were honored. Good luck!

Have you considered a home birth? I am doing that and using a midwife from Birth and Beyond in Madison, CT. You will love them if you give them a call!
