Making a Book

Ok Ladies! My best friend is having a baby and her shower is coming up in a couple of weeks. I wanted to make a book full of helpful tid-bits and inspirational stuff to help her through the first few weeks as a new mom. So, I thought where better to get goodies to put in the book then from you wonderful, sage, inspirational women? She is breastfeeding and not cloth diapering and she has no real parenting philosophy. Hopefully y'all will be able to help me out!! TIA!!

I'd put a page/section on pp stuff. How to make padcicles, what to expect at the hospital, etc.

This. Depending if you want to freak her out or not mention the thickest pads she'll wear in her life and cleaning her vajiggle with a peri (sp?) bottle.
Also find the contact information of your local LLL and include that.
I wish I would have known about all the great Lansinoh products before I gave birth and started BF; soothies gel pads, nipple shields and this 3-in-1 breast therapy thing. My newly engorged boobies were so thankful.

  • I think the whole advice book really depends on your relationship with your friend.  If you're going to do it, I'd definitely keep it on the lighter side.  One thing I wish someone would have talked to me about is the possibility of breastfeeding not working out or how physically and emotionally difficult that could be for a new Mom.  I feel like so many people make it sound magical, and while it is for some, it is far more difficult than I think most of us would imagine.

  • What about info about lactation consultants, mommy groups, etc in her area? She won't have to spend the time looking online if she ends up needing support.
