Adoption

Starting home study

Our first home study appointment has been scheduled for next week.   I am excited things are moving forward, but have no idea what to expect which is a little scary.

Re: Starting home study

  • Our HS appointments basically were just a rehash and expansion on the questionnaire we filled out. Really no big deal, just be yourself! :) GL with everything!

    5/10 - Gideon 6/12 Warren
4/11 Started adoption process for 2 siblings through DCF. 10/12 Found out we are licensed! 12/14 Brought 3 week old identical twin girls home from the hospital.  Could be at least until Summer 1015 til we know if they are forever ours
  • It's perfectly normal to be nervous. Just remember they're there to make sure you'll be good parents, not looking to disqualify you. GL!
  • It's very exciting and nerve wracking. The night before our first home study, at 4:45am I had to talk myself off the ledge of transplanting house plants...... I was that nutty. Good luck!
I always wanted to be a mom, I just didn't know how I would get there.
  • Our first visit was just basically going over the questions in the 2,936 pages of paperwork we had to fill out. Our in home meeting (the dreaded inspection) was nerve wrecking to say the least. We cleaned, organized and hid things for 2 weeks and were still doing so up until she arrived.

We sat and talked for about an hour and a half and she finally walked around the house checking for a few key items like smoke detectors. I think she actually learned more about us during the general conversation that went on than we realized at the time.

Just relax, be yourself and you will be fine.
Proud 40 year old, first time daddy!
  • Good luck! :)

    A CACKLE A DAY

  • Good luck!  I'm wondering how many rounds of home study are typical?
