Growing

Does anyone else find that their LO outgrows sleepers faster than anything else? Ethan is currently wearing size 6 months onesies, 3-6 months pants, and 6-9 month sleepers and he is only 4 months. I'm a FTM so maybe this is normal, he is not a chunky baby by any means 15 lbs 9 oz and 24 inches long. Just wondering if anyone else's baby seems to be all over the place in sizes and outgrowing sleepers?

Re: Growing

  • My girls are exactly the same! I thought maybe they had long legs!

  • That's the first thing she outgrows. She is in 6mo but they are getting a little short now..

How is that not chunky? I mean, he isn't breaking the record, but he is not a small baby.

And yes, my baby outgrows sleepers first too. 6-9 month sleepers are starting to get the tiniest bit snug in the smaller brands. It is weird I feel like the jump from 6 month clothes to 9 month clothes is huge.

  • Yes, definitely! For us, her longs legs have a factor in it, but our main issue is with footed sleepers. She has huge feet and can't wear one for too long before she has outgrown it. Thats no surprise for us though because DH and I have big feet but it's cold here and footed sleepers are the best!

He isn't chunky he is long. Yes his thighs are a little big and the typical tummy but he's just long. He is the same size as all the 3 month old babies we know at least in weight. He doesn't outgrow his clothes because they are too tight he outgrows them because they get too short.
  • DD also has long legs and her 9 month sleepers are already a little tight on the legs.  She fits in 6 month sizes in everything else.

  • My baby is 15lbs, 12oz and is 70something%. She is 25.5in and is 81%. She is also almost 4.5 months. Your baby is very close in weight to that, he is larger than 50%. My baby is also long, at 25.5 inches so yeah, I get the growing out of sleepers thing. I'm just saying truly your baby is not small.

  • Hah.... Couldn't tell ya. Our lil' peanut can still wear NB pants as far as waist size. They are too short though, and while 3 month pants fit in length, they literally fall off her. I'm seriously considering having her pants tailored because other than have her live in sleep & plays, I am out of ideas.
  • Same story here, the footed sleepers are the first thing he outgrows in each size.  He is going to be moving up to the 12 month sleepers soon, but everything else fits perfectly in 9 months.

Uhh... my baby is 14 lb 15 oz and I deft don't think he is a chunky baby.  He is pretty average and growing out of clothes length wise before his chunk can fill them in.

Oh and he is right at 50%.
  • We always move up in sleepers first too. I find the zipper ones last a little longer and will still work when button one the same size can no longer be buttoned on the crotch. My LO has huge thighs, I feel bad but it doesn't matter the size, I always have to squeeze those ham hocks in.

We are also right at 50%. He was also born 5 weeks early and is Over 4 months old. So like I said he is the same size as most 3 month old babies. He is pretty average and actually smaller than most babies we know.

I agree the zipper ones last much longer. We have one zipper one now that seems much bigger than 6 months.
  • Still in 0-3m sleepers over here. He can also wear some 3-6 but its rare. I've found that he outgrows short sleeve onesies faster than anything...weird.

This. LO is definitely rocking 0-3 months for all her clothes, however she wears giant CD's so I get to bust out the 3-6 month onesies depending on brand :-) She seems like she's getting chunky but on her own growth curve

  • This is us as well!  I went through several sleepers last night before I found one that actually fit him.  It was a 9 month sleeper and it still seemed a bit snug...
  • I just boxed up all of his 3-6 month footed PJs. Had to make a run to Target to get the 6-9. They're a little long still for him, but he seems much more comfy

  • FYI- they only get worse as the months wear on. Whoever designed sleepers has no true concept of baby size. My boy is 29 inches long at 4 months and wearing 12- 18 month clothing. The 18 mos sleepers are too wide and yet the body length is no different that 12 month and is actually snug on him.

That is absolutely crazy! The 99th percentile in height for 4 month old boys is just under 27 inches. So the tallest one percent of all boys are 27 inches--and your boy is two full inches taller than that? I bet your doctor was pretty amazed!
  • Yep!! Us too. (4 months 02/16/14) Aryana is just now in 3-6 month sleepers. But still 0-3 month sleepers and pants. We go in to the pedi on 2/16 for her 4 month wellness and shots, and I cannot wait to find out her stats.

I thought she would never outgrow this 0-3 month phase.

For what it's worth I'm so not starving her she just has really bad eating issues.
    Thank you,
    Mom2Ary

Yep there is no chart to contain my boy. As a kid I wanted a pet giraffe, so I gave birth to one instead.

Cray cray! Ds is 26 inches at 14 weeks and over 17 lbs. what's weird is that he doesn't look chunky or abnormally big to me at all. :) mommy goggles.

Hilarious! My dad is 6'9," so I know all about being in a giraffe family!
  • My LO must be a chunky monkey because we got on the scale this morning and someone weighed 16 lbs but she's still ok in her 6 month sleepers.  She must be short :(

I have found that real Carters sleepers fit longer than the ones that Carters makes for Target and Walmart!
