Activity time

So I've been working on keeping DS awake after he eats. So far it's gone well. He's usually awake for 30 minutes to an hour after he eats. Today though he's been fussy and is falling asleep in my arms after he eats. Would you keep trying to do activity time? I feel like he must need the sleep, so I don't really want to push it. Any opinions are welcome.

Re: Activity time

  • FTM here, but I would let him sleep when he is tired. Some days my son sleeps ALL DAY, and some days he sleeps only a little bit, but at night time he always only wakes up once no matter what he did during the day. It really doesn't make a difference.

  • I try to keep DS2 engaged when he's awake (tummy time, activity mat, etc), but if he's tired I let him sleep.

Amylou333 said: Yeah, agreed. Why are you keeping him awake? He's a newborn. If he's tired, let him sleep! I don't want to purposely keep him awake. I should have phrased my original post better. We have been trying to help him distinguish his days from nights by playing with him, doing tummy time, or going for a walk after he eats if he's awake after he eats. It is our routine to have him eat, activity, and then sleep.  My mommy instincts said just let him sleep, but I wanted to get some opinions on what others would do. I guess I wanted to see how much I should stick to our routine.

  • I second the let him sleep notion. I read it makes no difference on their nighttime activities, and then tested it, and sure enough, no difference. Except ME being more tired and at the end of my rope.

It's kind of like trying to wake up a sleeping cat. :)
