Moses Basket for Bassinet...opinions?

I am trying to decide on a bassinet for when the baby is first born.
Are Moses baskets safe? Would you recommend them?
Thanks!

Re: Moses Basket for Bassinet...opinions?

  • Is it for the baby to sleep at night? I never had a Moses basket. I think you would want something higher off the floor as LO's main sleeping place so you don't have to bend over as much. Also it's nice to be able to access the baby without getting out of bed if you're going to be room sharing.

  • I'd get a regular bassinet or rock and play instead.

  • I've never used one or read any reviews but I cannot imagine that being a good option for night time. Unless you also have a mattress on the floor?

  • That's what we are doing. A basket beside the bed. I guess it depends on if you have a CS then it might be tricky.
  • A Moses basket is safe to use as a sleeper. You may already be planning this, but I'd definitely recommend buying a stand for it. Something like this maybe. They're pretty readily available.

  • We've been looking at doing a moses basket with a stand as well. I keep going back and forth though, as they're fairly expensive for the short amount of time they'll actually be using it.

  • Restoration hardware has a sale on them right now! I would definitely get the stand if I go that way.
