2 cm dilated, 50% effaced

Hey! I'm 36 weeks, 3 days and we went to the doctor today and he told us we are 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced! This is our second child and we are super excited! Is anyone else in the same boat? I know everyone is different but any guesses how soon I might be having this baby? Thanks!

  • I was 2cm and 50% effaced last week and today I was 2cm and 80% effaced. Not much change. I'm due saturday with number 2. I hope your progression goes faster then mine :)

  • I'm 10cm dilated and can feel a head between my legs. Do you think I should go to the hospital? Is it time??!!????

@jordyinindy do not, I repeat, do not call your doctor! wait for someone here to write back and go with what the majority says. after all, you can only join TB if you're a certified doctor.

  • I'm 40w2d and as of last Wednesday I was still not dilated. Obviously this baby has to come soon, so dilation isn't very predictive.

  • If it's such a dumb question, then why are you wasting your time clicking on the post? Do you not have something better to do than being rude to someone you don't know? It's like the old saying - if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.
  • I'll see who is online on the parenting board.

  • @sgambrah care to tell me why you flagged my post? nothing was flag worthy, check the TOS then click "love it" to get rid of it.

  • Thanks for the flag. And as other PPs have said, no there is nothing better to do right now than scroll through posts.
  • Finally some entertainment!!

You know what's pathetic - the level of immaturity I see on here. Thank you to those of you who actually gave me a helpful answer instead of trying to embarrass me or just outright make fun of me. I honestly hope you reconsider how you choose to act towards people.

    It's okay,

Sorry, I hit reply to fast. But once you get to know them, you will see that it's their personality. It's nothing to take personal........

But I'm 1cm dilated and 50%effaced. It's no telling when I will go into labor. It's a waiting game.

  • I am in the exact same boat as you and just started to lose my mucous plug.  Who knows what will happen next, all I know is that I hope I do not go into labor during a major storm! :)

    good luck!

From what I can gather (and I'm not a physician), asking when you will give birth based on your effacement and dilation is sort of like asking when you will die based on your blood pressure and family history of illness. Nobody can know for sure. Op, I know it is frustrating, but hang in there
  • I truthfully have no idea what any of this means.

My doctor doesn't do cervix checks and stuff unless there's a medical issue or you really really want them to. I know my baby's head is smooshed way, way down there, and that's pretty much all I need to know right now, lol. Knowing if I was diliated or whatev would probably just get my hopes up for some imminent action that ain't gonna happen.
