FET easier than fresh cycle?

My ET was just cancelled due to OHSS and the use of Lupron to trigger. Luckily we have 6 good quality blasts that we were able to freeze for a FET cycle. The nurses and the dr have said that FET is so much easier than the fresh cycle and in my particular situation has a better chance of success. Their reassurances made me feel better about having our ET cancelled. However, when they called today to let me know about the FET process it sounds way worse than the fresh cycle. The FET protocol was: 21 day bcp, on day 15 start lupron shots for 10-12 days, bloodwork and sono check, 12-14 days lupron shot + estrace pills, another bloodwork and sono check and as long as everything looks good then FET a week later. I only did injections for 9 days with my fresh cycle and was miserable by the end. My stomach was so bruised and hurt from the injections (I didn't have success with trying to inject in the legs). Any of you ladies have experience with this type of FET protocol? Did you feel it was easier than your fresh cycle? I can't imagine it being easier due to the total 22-26 days of lupron shots. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Re: FET easier than fresh cycle?

  • My FET was a lot easier on me. I was doing 3 different shots a night at one point during my IVF. For my FET it was only one shot of Lupron with estrace and then once lining was thick enough we switched to PIO. But it is much fewer office visits to the RE. Good luck!!

Possibly there is a mix up or misunderstanding of the timeline. My FET cycle was only about 2wks or so of injections and maybe like 2 dr visits and the transfer. It's been a yr since my last FET, but it was much easier than a fresh. I'm currently stiming for my ER next week, but will be doing a FET in March.

  • I have never had a FET (or any blasts to freeze... Possibly never any blasts at all), but I'm doing Lupron right now for IVF #3. It's really not bad! The insulin syringe is teeny, tiny. No bruises so far. I did Estrace pills for my estrogen priming protocol with IVF #2. Taken orally, it's really not terrible (aside from the breakouts and moodiness). My advice would be to just take it a step at a time and thank your lucky stars that you have six frosties!
