DIY baby gate, how did you put yours together?

So I am about to embark on making my own baby gate for the top and bottom of my stairs. The bottom gate is requiring so much "creativity" due to the angle and design of the stairs and the stength and craftiness of my 8 month old, I am curious to see what others have done.  Would love to pics of gates anyone has made for top or bottom of their stairs. 

Right now I am thinking of going with canvas type cloth, sown double backed, with grommets along sides, small carabiner clips and eye hooks screwed in the outsides of the wooden posts I have, and weighting the bottom of  the fabric with sown in wieghts.  I would love to try something simpler and cheaper to put together for DS who is way to smart for his own good if it exists

This seems like a lotttt of work  What's the set up you're looking to use it on?  Also, for the top, are you able to drill that fabric into the wall (deep set!)?  The last thing you want is baby leaning on it and taking a tumble.

because of the way our railings are set up, we had to do this https://gatekeepersafe.com/ 

they customized the gates to our home and matched the stain!

Diddo, Our railings will not allow it. The posts are square and round.  Where the gate would mount is square but the below where the gate would sit against at the bottom is a continuous slant.There is not support for the gate to rest on. Would not take much for DS to yank the gate once the is strong enough to do so.  There is also nothing supporting the posts. They stand alone and could see them possibly leaning outward after a while from tightening the gate more and more.

There is no wall, the posts have a railing that connects them to the smaller posts going up to the wall meeting at the landing.
