Labor Playlist?

Has anyone started thinking about a playlist for labor? What songs/artists will you be including?

I can never just sit down and think of a bunch of great songs so I've been trying to add good songs to my list when I come across them. Pretty sure there will be lots of The Killers but not sure what all else yet.

Re: Labor Playlist?

  • Yeah, we will probably do one in an effort to keep the mood light and to make us laugh. I've seen ones with Push It and Ring of Fire etc, and I think they're great. Serious song that I'll definitely put on? Cloud Cult- You Were Born. All the tears.

  • @ykristos Aww that's a great song! Hadn't heard it before so I just youtubed it, think I'll have to add it to my list. And maybe post this discussion in another month or two when I'm not the only cray doing a labor list..

  • I've thought about it but I haven't started a list... I have a feeling I'm gonna take all this time to make it and then every song on there will piss me off and I will want to skip them all... :-/

  • Are you able to just play it from speakers in the room?I plan on playing pandora's 'music for brainwaves' station it's like massage room music.Relaxing:)
  • I made one with DS.  I wasn't sure what kind of music I would want or if I would even use it, but decided to give it a try.  I scrolled through my iTunes and picked out all the more quiet/mellow songs that I like.  That way they were songs I know and enjoy listening to, but had a calming effect.  I listened to it while laboring at home and during the car ride to the hospital (an hour away).  I know everyone is different, but in labor I just wanted it to be quiet and work through the pain.  The music definitely helped.  I kind of forgot about it when I got to the hospital, but maybe this time I'll make a point to put it on when I get there.

I'm with @ykristos on the funny songs.  While for most of the playlist I'm thinking mellow-ish music (Mumford, Fleetwood Mac, Lumineers, Ray LaMontagne, etc.) to relax me, I know I'm going to want to laugh and get a little pumped up.

I'm all about throwing in "Push it" and I'm going Rocky workout montage song, "Gotta Fly Now"  I figure if that song helped Rocky run up all those damn stairs, it'll help me push out my kid. Sound logic, I know.

Edited because my siggy was crazy-ass
  • I actually just had Shinedown playing the whole time. They're my favorite band & it helped me concentrate on something else other than the contractions. I'll probably do the same again.

  • Yeah I've been thinking about one as well, but when I'm in pain I'm not in the joking mood so I probably will have calm and relaxing music. Not sure what will be on it.

  • I'm not sure I think it will be completely mood dependent- probably just pandora
  • I made a playlist of classical pieces that I play on the piano when I had DS (I was doing Bradley, and figured that would help me put my attention elsewhere), but by the time I got to the hospital I didn't want to use it. If I take music this time, I'll probably do an Enya station on Pandora - just something soothing.
  • I listened to the Gladiator soundtrack on repeat for about 12 hours. Wasn't planned. In the moment that's just what I wanted!

  • I made one last time but never used it. We weren't in hospital so easily could have I just wasn't thinking about it and no one else brought it up. I was so zoned out though they honestly could have had bagpipes going and I don't think I would have noticed. I might make another, if time allows, but it's not going to be top of my list.

  • A few months ago we all came up with a pretty solid playlist. If i wasn't so lazy, I'd find it and link it. Maybe later :D
  • I didn't want any music or distractions when I was in labour last time either. Everything I thought Id like, I wanted nothing to do with! No sounds, no music, no food, no touching, no bath, etc. But its definitely nice to have the option! Honestly Id never thought of making a playlist. I like some of the suggestions!

  • If I make one I'll probably have coldplay and snow patrol on it... they always relax me.

I started that thread, but I'm laying in bed and too lazy to search my posts to look for it.

Some that I can remember off the top of my head: Push It, Ring of Fire, Lets Talk about Sex, Under Pressure, Ice Ice Baby, Gonna Make you Sweat.

  • I made a playlist today thanks to this thread. It consists of John Legend, Corrine Bailey Rae, FOB, Outkast, Usher, and a few others.

You just never know if you're going to want calm, mellow music or music that pumps you up and gets your bones going.
