And I'm bleeding...UPDATE

I spent yesterday morning in the ER because I woke up to bright red blood in a moderate amount. I was not experiencing any cramping but I still decided to go in. The babies were active and the heartbeats were 150 and 170 and my pelvic exam showed that my cervix was closed. The doctor said I may have bled because of intercourse but they could not come up with a reason. Of course I had to hear there's a 20% chance I will miscarry which made me feel fabulous. I woke up this morning to darker red blood, not as much as yesterday, and no cramping. I'm waiting to call my OB and hopefully will get in today. I just need answers and to be told everything is going to be okay. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks

I'm sorry you had such a scare. It's great news that the babies are moving around. Truthfully, I'd question the 20% risk. You're in the 2nd trimester, heartbeats are strong and babies are moving. My RE told me that brings the risk down to under 3%. Talk to your ob to be sure but I can't imagine that to be the case. Sex can cause irritation and bleeding. You could have an SCH that's draining out which maybe the ultrasound tech wasn't able to see. Seriously, I don't know how my RE saw mine. They look like nothing. Also, if you stopped vaginal progesterone in the last week, that could cause bleeding, too.

So there could be a lot of reasons for the bleeding that aren't threatening to your little ones. Try not to worry and hopefully you can get I'm to see your doc today.

I developed a SCH right around the same time, and it started as bright red blood with no cramping. I hope you're able to get some answers from you OB today - mine has told me that ER docs are not very good at diagnosing these things but are very good at freaking pregnant patients out.... I hope that you get some promising news today! Keep us posted.

The risk is increased because she is bleeding and the ER calls anything like this a threatened miscarriage under 20 weeks. The 3% risk in 2nd tri refers to a normal pregnancy. My OB told me never to go to the ER unless I call his office and he tells me to because they can't do anything and they really install more fear then it's worth. If your not cramping and the babies looked good then that's great. If the blood is getting darker it's actually a good sign because bright blood is new blood so if it's darker then it's old blood. Sending positive thoughts for you but I'm sure everything will be okay.

Uuugh I'm sorry you going through this, it must be nerve wracking :-( But I'm glad to hear that the babies are chuggin' along nicely - that's what's important! I'm wondering if the darker blood is actually just because it's now older and drying up. That happened to me when I had my SCH. FX that all continues to go well for you!

Sending t&p. We found a sch around the babies around 7w, but I didn't bleed till 12w when we weaned the pio. Its really scary. Take it easy & drink plenty of fluids!

Btw, thanks to the responders who mentioned that going off progesterone can cause bleeding. My last day on it is tomorrow and my RE didn't warn me, so I'm glad you gals did!

Have had two such episodes one at 7w and one at 13w. Both were dramatic but did not last more than a couple if hours. Babies were fine both times. They never found a reason for the bleeding.

Hang in there! Easy to say, right??
I bled for my entire first trimester! Really heavy at times. I felt like I was constantly given different reasons why.
Well, 20 weeks today and babies are going strong. Bleeding is scary!

Thank you all so much for your input! I just got back from my OB and she said the whole 20% stat is something the ER doctors tell every pregnant women. She said she does not think I'm going to miscarry. The babies look fabulous measuring about a week ahead! She believes the reason for bleeding could be due to intercourse and also placenta previa. Baby A's placenta is 1 cm away from my cervix but she thinks it's because it has to do with how little room is in there and thinks it'll fix itself as they grow.
