I'm glad to read this. We are team green, so don't web know if this is an issue yet, but I've been concerned about it. DH is very set on having it done if we have a boy and I've been unsure. I'm still nervous about it but it is nice to read a positive story.
I think if you ask around you'll definitely hear both sides. It probably really comes down to the doctor and the method they use to do it, as I think there are still a couple different ways it's done. I was really nervous but the OB that did it was great. Like I said, DS didn't even make a peep. We kept the gauze and vaseline on it for a week or so until it healed. The procedure had no ill effects on breastfeeding and I know it didn't make him extra sleepy because my child didn't sleep at all his entire first year (or so it seemed).
It really is just a very personal choice and I think hearing both sides is good to help form your decision. I do admit I gave my husband's opinion more weight than my own just because he has the equipment and I don't. If he thought at all that being circumcised had any negative effects on his body image or sexual experience, then we may not have done it, but he had good reasons for wanting it done and convinced me.
I talked to my OB about it today and found that really helpful. She basically said there's no major medical argument for or against, though there is some benefit to circ'ing (the lowered risks of cancer, STDs, etc that have been brought up). She did not endorse or discourage it, which I appreciated.
We also talked pediatricians -- another helpful convo -- and we have it down to 2!
