Cloth Diapering

for those who crochet soakers

I have recently descovered that I can crochet my own Wool soakers
I a using the Lions brand Fisherman's Wool (100% wool)
all of the patters call for a single worsted weight which lions brand wool is,
but I have seen many completed soakers which use two strands at the same time.

would a single strand of yarn (crocheted tight with a smaller hook than called for in single crochet)
be thick enough for a night time diaper soaker? or should I really be doubling the pattern?

Re: for those who crochet soakers

  • Are you on ravelry? There is a soakers and longies group that may give you some good responses :)

I knit and am still awaiting my little guy, so that is all the help I can give.

  • You could always make a couple singles and put two in if you need. They wouldn't go to waste.

This is a brilliant idea, by the way. Why did I not know about this?! I can crochet/knit some cotton soakers! :)

I think you are confusing soakers and doublers. A wool soaker is a cover...the name is misleading. :)

where did you find your pattern? the only good ones I found were knit, the crochet all seemed wonky.

  • Oh damn! I get those confused. :( So should I coin the crocheted doublers? ;)

I would do the double strand, then. You don't want them to leak!

  • all on ravelry. I made a point to avoid the purely decorative soakers.
