Skyla IUD

Does anyone have any experience with it? I know its fairly new just thought I would ask. TIA

Re: Skyla IUD

  • My OB is recommending this one to me if I go the IUD route. She said it's basically Mirena (same manufacturer and hormone) but just a lower dose of the hormone so lasts 3 years instead of 5.

I'm still not sold on anything hormonal but she says I'm not a good candidate for Paraguard due to my already long, heavy, painful periods. Also the risk of infection freaks me out.

  • I was going through all of this with my doctor earlier and I ended up getting the Mirena for 5 yrs.
  • My doc said same as PP. Something also about how it's good for ladies who haven't had babies, so not us. I think maybe it's Mirenas daintier sister.

  • I got it put in last week. We chose this because three years is more realistic time frame for us and it's less hormones. So far so good. I had some cramping for 2-3 days and have had slight bleeding, but no milk supply issues or any other hormone related symptoms.

It is made by the same company, but is smaller, uses less hormones, and has to be removed after 3 years. This isn't only for people who haven't had children, it's just the only one that was tested on people who hadn't yet had children so it's the only one that can advertise it that way.
  • Thanks for the feedback ladies.  I've only used the pill before but do not trust myself to remember to take it at the same time everyday.  Plus I think we are shooting to ttc in about 1 1/2 so no point in getting the 5 yr IUD
