We just started gating DS1 in his room for "quiet time". It sort of works. Usually the end result is that every single book comes off his bookshelf, and his toys are scattered around the room. He doesn't cry to get out unless he can see or hear me, which is good.

DD is still in her crib so toys are not an issue for us.  I do make her stay in her crib for at least 1hr if she wont nap.

I have a gate in front of the door. As long as I stay out of her sight she doesn't cry to get out. She reads books and plays with her stuffed animals. I make her stay in there for at least an hour before giving up on a nap for that day.

Alex is still in his crib and will just lay there, read some books and babble if he doesn't nap. Luckily that only happens every now and then! When he doesn't nap, I check in every 30 minutes to make sure he didn't poop and is not napping because of that and after 1 1/2 hours I get him.

Leave the lights off. I do not go in there because if I do she gets hysterical.

i close the door and tell him to get back in bed via our creepy video monitor that i can talk through. he usually stays in bed for the most part, but thats after months of me watching and the second he puts a foot on the floor, i tell him to get back in bed.

We're still lucky and he's still in his crib. If he doesn't nap I just let him sit in the dark and talk and play. I also check after the first 45 minutes in case he pooped. When he doesn't take a nap though it ruins mommy's quiet time!

DS1 was getting out of bed over and over and over and not napping, since before Christmas, driving me mad, if we are out of sight and don't pay attention to the behaviour he goes to sleep (not always in his bed), but if DS2 is in his crib then DS1 goes in to play with him which leads to lots of crying and DS1 gets the attention he wants. Today I swapped his door handle over to a round doorknob and put a child lock on his side so he can't get out. He napped for almost 2 hours, never heard a peep from him, I assumed he tried and realised he couldn't et out and get attention so he just went to bed, I am hoping this continues, as he was always a great sleeper and he was doing the same at night too driving us crazy by keeping on getting up and coming into our room waking up DS2 sometimes for over an hour.
