3rd Trimester

Small head measurement?

I posted this on another board but only one response. So we had our 28 week u/s today and everything looked great. So far, everything has been measuring just fine and we've passed every fetal test we've done. We still see a perinatal specialist every six weeks or so so that's why we had another scan today. And again, baby looks great. However, this time he said her head was measuring a few weeks behind. The brain looks good, so he said he's only slightly concerned and wants to see us in four weeks. I can't find any info on this that isn't either terrifying or extremely vague. Anyone have personal experience with this? It's hard to say if it's familial on my end because I had pretty major growth issues all around as a baby, below 1% on everything. We did get a lot of really good 3D shots today however.

Re: Small head measurement?

  • I went for my US and showed behind 10th percentile) on femur length - I overheard the tech talking and now I'm super worried! My hubby and I are both shorter 5'6 and 5'7 so it could be that, but could be other possibilities too :-(
  • DD had a small head (overall IUGR, but her head was small - she was small but long). After she was born, she still had a tiny hear (it doesn't look weird or anything) and has never measured above the 3rd percentile. She had an scan done on her head when she was under a year old to make sure the plates weren't fusing prematurely and was fine. Finally the pedi just measured our heads and mine is on the small side too. I can fit into kid size baseball caps. One of my brothers has a small head too. We both have issues finding sunglasses that fit right, etc. DD is fine, we just have a hard time finding hats for her.

    I hope it is nothing!

  • My LO had a small head measurement at our 20wk scan, but the tech wasn't worried. She's about 17th percentile and pretty small all over. There's still time for a growth spurt!

  • Thank you guys so much! I have no idea what to think. I get so many scans, but it just means any little discrepancy can indicate a lot of terrible things! I have no other choice but to wait four more weeks and hope that nothing is wrong. Gah!!! Being a mommy is so stressful!!!
