Success after IF

New to Boards... Question about success with fibroids (MC story in post)

Good morning,
I'm brand new to the boards and hoping I'm doing this right (even though I still have a lot of abbreviations to learn!). I think I'm in the right place to ask this question, but if I'm not, I'd appreciate suggestions about appropriate boards....

I am am 41 and TTC with my longterm partner. We got a BFP at 17 DPO, and three days later (about an hour after I made my first doctor's appointment), I had a mc. I went to the doctor the following week and he did an internal ultrasound and found some fibroids that he thought may be problematic.
I had a hsyteroscopic myomectomy and LAP on 1.6.14 and he was only able to take care of one < 1cm fibroid, but there was so much bleeding that he stopped before he could get to the 2cm fibroid (all are submucosal) that is positioned at the top of the uterus near the opening of the tubes. He said that it may be blocking the right tube, but couldn't visualize it; the left tube is unobstructed.
The LAP showed that everything else is fine, and my numbers are good, but when I came out of surgery, the doctor told my BF and my mother that I would not be able to have a baby because of the fibroid he had to leave. At my follow up with him last week he explained why the position of that fibroid causes him concern, but because I am already 41 (will be 42 in June), he doesn't think there is enough time to treat it, fully recover, and then begin TTC. He has referred me to an IF doctor, but I found out that my insurance does not cover it, so I am scheduled for a second opinion with another OB/GYN on 2.12 before I take that step.

I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience/diagnosis and gone on to have a successful pregnancy. I'm not ready to give up based on one very conservative (I believe) opinion, and I find it really hard to believe that a 2cm fibroid could render me IF regardless of my age. Maybe I'm delusional or in denial, but I thought I'd reach out. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks for reading. :-)

Re: New to Boards... Question about success with fibroids (MC story in post)

  • I don't have an answer. I did have a lap three years ago, and I had stage 2 endo with fibroids and a septum in my uterus.
I don't really understand his timeline for treating it and fully recovering and ttc.
I think going and getting a second opinion is fine and then, depending on what that OB says, go from there. However, i do think your best bet would be talking to an RE and seeing what they have to say since they are the specialist and would/should be the best chance you have at getting pregnant. Is it just that RE that isn't covered by your insurance, or is it just IF as a whole isn't on your policy?
If it comes down to seeing an RE to get pregnant a lot of offices have self pay prices as well as financial administrator to talk to.

  • Thanks, morgs8384. I appreciate your reply. :)
IF as a whole is not covered by my policy. While I'm waiting for my appt for the 2nd opinion, I was planning to reach out to the specialist I was referred to just to check their pricing for consultation, etc. I have no idea what the costs are like and we're on a pretty tight budget right now. Thanks for the suggestion. :-)
