Chips and queso

So why can't I eat queso?? I know some cheeses and stuff but if it's cooked? I am obsessed with chilis queso and make it at home all the time. In fact I want it like now. When pregnant with Ds that's the only thing I could eat some days.

Is it really bad?

As long as it's made with pasteurized cheese, you're fine to eat it.

Not sure what chilis uses butninuse velveta lol. I just read it in baby center just now so was curious. Thanks ladies!

It is extremely unlikely that you will accidentally buy un pasteurized cheese in the U.S.  You should be fine.

Velveeta is safe to eat. I'm pretty sure that's what Chili's uses too. Most restaurants use pasteurized products whenever possible.

I can't live without queso..frankly it's what I'm most looking forward to about the Super Bowl. I have never heard it could be unsafe to eat during pregnancy and refuse to believe any such thing!

I think imported queso fresco/blanco might be unpasteurized and that is where the no queso thing comes from

Last prgnancy I lived on Buffalo Wild Wings' chili con queso.  In fact, I think I may get that for dinner.

The US has the strictest importation laws and is extremely anti-unpasteurized cheese. I highly doubt that any imported queso (which is a essentially junk cheese when compared to most cheeses) would be unpasteurized.

Agreed on the imported point.. but those cheeses are often unpasteurized, though not necessarily the ones imported here. Just saying that was why "queso" ends up on the no no list. The FDA site specifically mentions them.

I went with a Turkey sandwich and Doritos instead of queso because it sounded good and I'm too lazy to make queso and cook Ds lunch. I have a feeling it will be made today. Or maybe I should wait until Sunday.... Or if I have enough ingredients I will make it both days

I didn't pack a dinner for tonight so I'm going to have to stop at the grocery store around the corner from the theater... and now I have a feeling I'm going to end up with nothing but chips & queso, and eat the whole damn jar for dinner.

This is what I was thinking.  We tend to think of queso as melted nacho cheese, but actual mexican queso is queso fresco/ blanco and may come in unpasteurized forms. I cannot think of one reason why you couldn't eat "american" queso though.

Yes!! The last time we had it was On The Boarder...their queso with greasey meat is da bomb! That's when we lived out west, I don't think they have them out east, at least not in my area.

I had a BWW right by my work during my last pregnancy. Southwest Chicken Queso, with chips and queso (instead of salsa), this was my order at least twice a week during 3rd tri! MMMmm delish!
