Baby Names

My baby is due in a month, and we still have no name! Help!

So my husband and I are pretty much the most indecisive people ever. It took us over three months to figure out what color to paint our baby's dresser! Haha. Anyway, when it comes to naming our boy, we've made absolutely no progress. I want something strong and unique. He wants something more common and subtle. So we're at a standstill. We also want to be careful and not give a name that can easily be made fun of. Young boys can be brutal! Also, we have a very Italian last name (Dolce), but our baby will only be a quarter Italian, so we don't want to give him an OVERLY Italian first name. My husband is also insisting on Richard being the baby's middle name, to honor his grandfather. I'm not a huge fan, but at least it has meaning. So we've thrown around quite a few names, but nothing is sticking. Maybe you ladies can help! Here are some of our options. Just remember, it should flow somewhat nicely with middle and last name...Richard Dolce. Let me know your thoughts!

I'm partial to Abraham because my son's name is Abram. Good luck!

  • I think a good compromise between what you and your husband wants is Isaac or Dominic - everyone knows both names but you never really hear them, and they're both strong. I also thought of Luca as I was going through your list. Good luck!

  • I really like Evan Richard.  I had Evan on my list until I found out this baby is a girl!  I don't care for Dominic with your last name just because they always get called Dom and I don't think that rolls well with your last name...Dom Dolce...eek...not my fav!  If you like other E names, my son is named Emmett!  It's strong but kind of subtle too and not too popular!

  • I voted Dominic - I love that name and the nn of Dom. My husband veto'ed it but I think it's such a great name!

  • I like Enzo, Dominic, Isaac. As a European I can get behind Rocco, all I can think of is the porn star, that would be the European equivalent of naming your kid Ron Jeremy.
  • We were going to name DD Lorenzo, nickname Enzo, if she had been a boy, so I pick Enzo. Love it.

  • I really like Evan Richard as well.

Dominic Dolce sounds like a member of the mob to me. (My boy is half-Italian, I'm not judging!) Like, Dom Dolce could be a minor character in Goodfellas -- and I feel like a creative kid could find an insulting rhyme out of that pretty easily. ("Dumb Dom Dolce...")

  • Ok, so I chose Bosko for one reason: growing up, his guy friends would probably call him boss, or boss-man, which is a highly masculine and positive NN. It may seem silly, but I think it would take the teasing aspect out of the equation. Also, this name would be commemorative towards your grandfather, allowing both sides to be noted. But, this does makes me think of Bosco for chocolate milk, and the Seinfeld episode where George's passcode is "Bosco".

My other two picks, just based on how they flow, are Evan and Rocco.
