Caribbean Babies

Yay!

So a co-worker on mine checked on my Medicaid application and it looks like it's going to be approved! I applied for it as a secondary policy - I have insurance but my deductible is high. So the Medicaid would cover my copay/deductibles. I have a huge bill at my midwives office that I can hopefully have submitted to them really soon.

And I have 4 more monthly payments left on a loan I had to get to replace my furnace and it'll be paid off. YAY TO MEEEEEE!

I want to hear your happy recent news too ladies!

Awesome news Teal! I'm going to apply for our pregnancy version of Medicaid soon. Apparently my dad will no longer be covering me on his insurance after June (great timing).

I'm currently trying to decide whether or not to go ahead and try to get different insurance now or wait so that it kicks in in July.
I think that's the version I'll have. They sent my app to the AllKids division, which is odd because I stated on there I didn't want Medicaid for my daughter, just me only.

  • My brain is currently being flooded with thoughts of my a/s tomorrow so that's all I got.  I'm super excited though!!  And I have a 3 day weekend!

Super awesome that you got approved AND you're so close to paying off a loan.  Sounds like your financial planning is working out well!

I'm gettin there, slowly but surely. I cut up my debit and credit card, so that's helping a ton by cutting me off from spending small amounts that add up here and there. I've gone days without spending anything. It feels very odd to literally not spend money daily, but I actually had money leftover from my last paycheck which never happens.

I canceled my debit card and got a new one because of the Target thing, and was without a card for about a week. I took out cash and it was amazing how quickly I blew through that money. It really made me take a second look at my spending and be a bit more frugal about it.

So, I'm having the opposite effect - I hate breaking large bills, so I'm more inclined to watch my cash spending - with debit cards, I'll spend $2 here, $5 here, and after a few days I've spent $50 on just crap.

It'll be interesting to see how it works in the next few months. It's my last budget option I've never done, so my fingers are crossed!

  • Yeah...ex-nay on that.

I got approved for a share of cost program? AKA I have to owe more than $2100 per month in order for the medicaid to kick in.

Fuck that mess...that doesn't sound needy to me.

It sounds like they put you on a 'spenddown', that's what its called in IL - so basically you have to pay $2100/month before they will pay for services?

Did you list assets on your application at all? Sometimes they include assets as actual cash.

Wait, you might be different...you don't have to pay share of cost, you just have to incur $2100 in one month before Medicaid becomes effective.

So, your labor and delivery would def exceed that...you should talk to a DHS rep and get more info.

  • Yay! Love all of your good news!

My good news is that DH said we could move out, AND I think I have him convinced to put a deposit down on a home TOMORROW. You guys. It is perfect. Nicest part of town, SIDEWALKS, gorgeous 1930s home with built-ins, fireplace, etc. And... to fill my sweet little kid dreams... A WHITE PICKET FENCE.

Dead. I am dead if we don't get this house. I am so in love with it already.
That sounds so lovely and cute! I hope you get it!

  • We should be getting a check in the mail soon from DH's car (his brother got rear ended in it and it got totaled...BIL is okay), and we are gonna use that to pay off the washer and dryer bill on the Lowes CC and my Wells Fargo CC.  It's more than we expected, so we are excited about that.

And gap insurance is gonna be pay off DH's car loan, so the only debt we will have is my student loan.  We are putting the rest of the check in a money market account at H's bank.
