BFing and caffeine?

If you bf, do you drink caffeine?

I've noticed that if I have a cup or two of coffee in the morning, DD is more fussy.  I'm trying to cut back, but it's SOOOO hard!  I'm already sleep deprived, and now I'm trying to kick the coffee habit.

Just wondering if anyone else experiences the same thing?

Re: BFing and caffeine?

  • DD #1 seemed to be super sensitive to caffeine. DD#2 doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all.
  • I drink caffeine and it doesn't seem to bother Christopher at all.  I don't know if you drank any while pg, but I did.  I HAD to have caffeine on a daily basis (that was an craving for me, as it's not like me)....now I drink it often with no problems.

  • Yes - I found it really impacted DD.  She would be super fussy and irritable.  I eventually cut it out until I decreased my bf frequency.
  • When I was BFing DD I had a glass of tea and a can of Diet Coke most days and she never seemed to be bothered by it.
  • I couldn't drink it at all when I was BFing Will.  He would freak the eff out.

  • i drink a full pot of the half and half stuff every day. DD seems to be fine, but I think it affects children differently.

  • I'm lucky...I drink coffee almost every day and it doesn't seem to bother DD at all.  I've never noticed a difference in her on the days I have it and the days I don't.

  • Yep, I sure drank coffee daily with DD2!!!  I HAD to in order to survive!  That's why I was wondering-I figured if I did it while pg, it wouldn't bother her now.  But, apparently it does!  And what's the point of decaf?!
  • i didn't drink caffeine pg or bf.  ds was not a good sleeper and i was terrified of making it worse.
  • Caffeine does not seem to bother him.  But if I nurse after having just coffee, on an empty stomach, sometimes he will spit up.  I have to make sure I eat something.
  • lol about decaf... i drink decaf daily - the placebo effect :)
  • Different depending on the kid. ?DD is sensitive to coffee - not caffeine, but COFFEE. ?I can drink all the sodas I want and she won't react in the slightest, but one cup of coffee and she's cranky and won't sleep all day. ?www.kellymom.com says caffeine should be fine, but again, it depends on the kid.
  • I drink 2 (large) mugs of coffee and at least one diet coke a day. I really doubt my ability to function otherwise. My DD doesn't seemed bothered by it.
