possibly IUGR...confused

Hi ladies. Last week I had a growth u/s I was 33w1d. My girls head measured 34w5d, femur 32w6d, belly 31w1d and her weight was estimated 4lb 5oz. Her belly measured in the 7th percentile so my dr was concerned and referred me to MFM. I had my appt today, im 34w exactly and her belly measured 31w5d, head was 33w5d and femur 33w3d and her weight was still estimated at 4lb 5oz the exact same as a week ago. The dr said overall shes in the 20th percentile which she was last week and said he thought she was fine. I knew that overall she was at or near the 20th percentile but our worry was her belly. He said since everything else was measuring right around 33w her belly was really only a week behind that but im 34w so really her belly is measuring 2w2d behind. I left that appt more confused than when I went. Her belly is now measuring in the 6th percentile and estimated no weight gain in a week how is that ok? Has anyone else had their babies belly measure smaller but everything else seemed normal? If so what waa the end result, did baby catch up the last few weeks or did you have to deliver earlier? Any info would great.

Re: possibly IUGR...confused

  • I had a baby with IUGR. Long story short, she measured 2 weeks behind at the 20 week scan, had almost no fluid, and a couple of echogenic foci. We got an amnio, no abnormalities. We went weekly to the MFM for ultrasoudnds and dopplers, and then a growth scan every three weeks to see if she was on a growth curve at all.

She was delivered full term at 37 weeks at a whopping 3 pounds, 10 ounces, you can read my story by clicking my blog link below (my son's picture), but you'll have to go back a few pages to get the whole story (start at January 2013).

IUGR is a very serious thing, and the abdomen measuring much smaller is trademark of IUGR.

  • I had an IUGR baby 12 days ago.  He was born at 37 weeks.  I had the same issue with the belly measuring much smaller than everything else.  I believe that in our 35 week growth scan, the belly was only in the 1st percentile, the femurs in the 5th and the head over the 10th.  He was born at 4lbs, 15 oz and healthy but small.  They still don't know why it happened.

This has come up a lot recently:

ETA: DD's head and belly were measuring smallest compared to the rest of her body. She turned out to be small but long (5lbs, but 20 inches long).

DD1: IUGR, low AFI delivered at 36 weeks

DD2: IUGR, low AFI delivered at 37 weeks
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
