If you're planning on breastfeeding, particularly if you haven't done it before, though it's a good reminder for all of us, this video is really excellent!

It's just 3 minutes, and goes through how to latch a newborn, what to look for to ensure baby is feeding well, and some other things while having great video of various moms close up, so you can really see what's going down. It's really helpful, especially if you haven't had a chance to observe BFing before... reading books and looking at pictures is for sure helpful, but video just makes it that much clearer.

Good video! Makes me a little weary though bc my boobs do not look like that! I mean yes they have gotten bigger and my areoles are huge but my nipples are not that prominent and stuck out. Anyone else!?!

It's going to be weird to nurse a NB again. DD just helps herself like I'm a buffet now.

Absolutely. My nipples were pretty flat before I had DD, and I had no issue bfing her For those of us without prominent nipples, BFing makes them that way - the suction pulls them out. Don't worry!

Haha, I know, right?? At the beginning you have to be so careful about getting the latch right, and positioning, etc, and then even a few months later you can do it anywhere, any time, any awkward position... and it's completely a non-issue.

I was googling flat nipples because mine don't stick out like the ones in all of the pumping and breastfeeding videos. Glad I'm not alone. I was worried.

Knowing what swallowing looks like is really key. I always refer to it as the chin pause, there's another Canadian doc with good videos out there of this (Newman). I had flat nipples too and pumping/nursing cured them. I did use a nipple shield for a few weeks, but that was also because DS was a preemie. Knowing how to compress you breast tissue into a "nipple sandwich" helps too the key being in cross cradle you compress the sides together whereas in football you compress top and bottom.

Are any of you FTMs planning to take a class solely on BF?  I took a childbirth class last weekend and it was taught by a lactation consultant.  She spent a decent amount of time talking about the subject and the hospital that I am delivering at has these consultants available for you after you deliver.  I know the class is taught by them.  I figured after the class and having that one on one help after I deliver would be enough.. thoughts?

Good video. Very helpful. My sister BFed my nieces but at 22 years old I wasn't all up for watching and taking notes back then. This helps a lot!

Oh how I hope this baby will open her mouth wide like the babies in that video. DD would not, for the life of her open her mouth up wide to latch.
