Baby Names

Came up with some possible names- would love your input! :)

I think I've decided on possible names for my little one!

For a girl, I like Annabelle Elisabeth Day

Annabelle means "Beautiful Grace" and Elisabeth means "Oath of God"

For a boy, I like Grant Allen Day

Grant means "A tall, strong man; grand" and Allen means "Noble, Handsome"

What do you think?  I'm open to your thoughts and suggestions!  We also have a 10 month old daughter named "Lillian Avari Day".  Lillian means "beautiful and delicate; like the flower" and Avari (pronounced like Avery) means "of the heavens".  I think that Lillian & Annabelle or Lillian & Grant sound like a nice sibling set.  If you have any other suggestions I would be open!

Thanks everyone and I am SO excited for baby #2!

  • Nice names!

My only comment is that I prefer the Annabel spelling.  Otherwise, you really can't go wrong.

  • I like them both, especially Grant. My only reservation would be the popularity of Anabelle (Bella).

I have an Annabel June, more a fan of this spelling but both names are lovely!

Curious, what makes the "Annabel" spelling more appealing than the "Annabelle" version?
  • Great names!

as someone who also prefers Annabel, for me it's because it is less frilly and super-feminine to me on paper. I also prefer Isabel to Isabelle. It's just a personal preference. I absolutely love Grant Allen. You have a great LN, too, everything sounds really nice with it.

  • Both are nice. I also used the Elisabeth spelling for my DD's middle name.

I felt like the Annabel was a little less froo-froo frilly princess if that makes sense, and should she have a nn (which I do not want but you know how it goes) I would rather to be Anna than Belle, thus I felt that Annabel lent itself to Anna as a nn more naturally and discouraged Belle.

Agree about it looking less frilly, but I also like the literary connection (EAP's Annabel Lee).

  • My suggestion is not to get hung up on what names mean. Most of these are not the actual meaning whatsoever unless the name actually is a word in a different language. We assign meaning to names and words and you can compare two baby name books and get contradictory meanings. Some of the loveliest names have odd meanings... like Calvin said to be derived from a word meaning bald... but Calvin is no less a suitable name. Just sayin'.

I am not a fan of the belle names. They just seem so girlish/young to me. I would much prefer Anna to Anabelle for your case. Annabelle Day sounds like a story book character for me, or a soap opera star.

    I love Grant Allen Day.

    To consider:
Camille, Catherine, Anna, Annaliese, Amelia, Olivia, Caroline
    Graham, Benjamin, Lucas, Jack
  • I prefer Annabelle, because it looks more complete to me, and I adore somewhat frilly/princess names. But you can't go wrong either way!
  • Great names! I like Anabelle spelling much better as it looks prettier and much more complete.
  • Both names are great! And FWIW, I prefer the Annabelle spelling because to me it seems complete. Nice choices!
