NBR: What do you love about your community?

We have a few of these Little Free Libraries where you can give a book or take a book. I think they are the cutest thing and I love when I find one I hadn't seen before. There is even an online directory to find these all over the world: LINK

I usually don't get a chance to take a picture as I am always zooming passed while driving, but this morning I got lucky as H took me out to coffee and dropped me off at work.

  • I've seen one or two of those around me but i have never checked them out.

We can walk to the grocery, Starbucks, ice cream, a few restaurants, library, all the schools and parks. We moved there this summer and this was the #1 reason why. We love it.

  • I think there are a lot of things I will enjoy about my community more after LO arrives. One big thing is the fantastic elementary school LO will be attending is literally a stone's throw from my house. We can walk to the playground and play there any time we want.

My neighborhood is also in a super convenient location and is close to 3 major roadways without having them right in our backyard so you definitely feel like you're in the suburbs but you can get to center city Philadelphia in about 15 minutes.

  • I love our parks. I have two different parks I can hike through walking distance from me (lots of trees and hills). Within 15/20 minute drive I have 4 others that are open air parks with pretty statues and lots of historical info. Within an hour I have an additional 4 state/fed parks. It is awesome. I am also walking distance from a 23 mile bike path, which I used all the time when I was younger, but regrettably have not any time recently. I am also walking distance from main street - a street with lots of small boutique stores, family owned restaurants and bars, and a club, but it is fairly pricey, and we only ever really go there for events.
  • @joules235 I am so jealous! I usually have to drive about 20 minutes to anywhere good for biking/running and the Delaware river isn't exactly known for its cleanliness so while I have kayaked in it before, it's not something we would do a whole lot of even though I adore anything water-related. I wish we had more outdoor resources here, but I guess that's the tradeoff when you live less than 5 miles outside of a major city!

  • Our pipes froze. I called to check I paid the bill and they dispatched someone to our house to check within 5 minutes to ensure it wasn't an issue on their end. Even though it wasn't their fault they still knocked on the door to offer help. I doubt that would happen in a bigger city.

I have a little free library in my yard! I love it and since I live close to the university people are always taking books out of it.

I love my town, it is so beautiful with mountains on all sides and there is so much to do. Great xc skiing, hiking, biking, downhill skiing, rafting/kayaking, camping and hunting. Basically its an outdoor sports mecca. We also have a really good symphony as well as live theater. The university brings a good dose of diversity and cool events too. I live close to down town and in walking distance of my school.

It is also a very kid, bike and dog friendly community with tons of parks, bike trails and lanes as well as dog parks. I love it here and I'm sad to move (if DH gets this job!) but I am also excited because I have heard Bend is similar.
That's so awesome you have a FLL! I'd love to see a photo!

You will find no shortage of activities to do in Bend - it truly is an amazing place!

  • My community is right on the ocean.  The beach is right up the street from my house.  I grew up here, and there's nothing better than this town in the summer time.  It's like no one goes to work anymore, and everyone just goes to the beach.  You can't beat it. 4th of July here is like none other!

And, the beach is beautiful year-round, especially on stormy days.  Every nor'easter, everyone goes up the top of the beach, watching the huge waves crash over the walls (the streets were totally flooded, but no one seems to care... we're all just in it together).

We are on a peninsula and at the very tip, there is a 2.5 mile jogging/biking trail, completely surrounded by water, with some big hills that you can walk up and take in breathe taking views of the city, the Boston Harbor, and then the Atlantic & north shore.  It's such a great spot.

It's a small town and everyone knows everyone... which can be annoying, for sure, but it really does give you a sense of community.  DH didn't grow up here, but loves it, and is happy I know everyone.  He thinks, "well, we'll always know who are kids are hanging out with and what they're up to," which is totally true.

It's also nice that our town is right next to Boston, and I can be downtown in 10 minutes.  Best of both worlds!

  • My town is small. We don't have much of anything. Actually, we really don't have anything at all. But its so quiet and that makes it a great town. Lol.

    We have
    1. Nail salon
    2. Chinese take out
    3. Dry cleaner
    4. Dollar General (aka Our General Store)
    5. Motorcycle Shop
    6. Bar & Grill (Only local bikers go there usually but they have an amazing cuban sandwich!)
    7. Police Station/Fire Station/Utilies
    8. A library, but there's no parking spaces relatively close and they're not very friendly.
And thats about it for my town.
  • We have great schools. We also have great programs at our library and rec center. Our rec center has a free gym that's actually nice. I have ds in gymnastics through the rec and my kids have been doing free library programs since they were babies-live music hour for kids, story times, etc. the kids have their own wing of our library with things like Lego tables , activity boxes, and a puppet theater. I get free electronic books and magazines through the library and they are good ones- best sellers and stuff like US Weekly, kids mags, etc. We are minutes from farms but I live in a development with neighbors like myself (young families, etc). Target, Kohls, and Wegmans are 15-20 mins away despite living in a suburban yet also farm community. I love where I live, but hate the taxes!

  • I wish I had something cool to offer like parks, hiking, etc but I hate it here.

The drug dealers don't stand on the corner in the Winter and we have a lot of free services for the homeless population to get help.

Now, tell me more about nice towns, kittens/rainbows, and lakes. I'm in the market for a bus ticket to any town without a state mental hospital or prison.
